Martin isn't going to fix your team's terrible kicking skills or leaky defense. These "what if?" "coulda" "shoulda" "woulda" games are pointless.

North have won 8 games out of the last 36 or whatever that crazy stat is. Martin is just one player and your team hasn't even properly bottom out yet.

Put Martin in any team they win more games - that's what the best players in the comp do. Lose him and I will happy to have a bet you won't be top 4 in 2018 - for 1 you will get a top 6 draw instead of a bottom 6 draw. You have 4 wins against top 8 teams - we have 3. Not sure many are worried about a Tiger dynasty just yet. Actually a finals win would surprise.

Embarrassingly stupid is thinking a single season defines where clubs are going to be in 12 months time.

Possibly. Alternatively, add Martin, a healthy Jacobs/Wright/Ziebell/Wood/Williams/Turner, another 12 months of development into Brown/Dumont/Clarke/McDonald/Preuss/Mountford/Simpkin etc, an easier draw due to finishing bottom in 2017, and suddenly a push into the eight is not that far-fetched at all.

Did you think Richmond were a top four side this year at this point in 2016? I certainly didn't.

How is your optimism that North will be better next year any different from the optimism Collingwood fans have shown the last few years? Yet every season after Buckley they have gotten worse. Despite adding Treloar who was the gun recruit a few years ago.

This whole “Richmond jumped from 16th to possibly top 4 so why can’t we?” theory is rubbish. If it were that simple then why doesn’t it happen more often?

It's not optimism - I don't think we will be a top eight side even with Martin next year, but it's also not out of the question.

I am more just responding to this theory that he would be silly to go to North because we won't play finals in the foreseeable future, which is impossible to state with any sort of certainty.

The Richmond theory isn't rubbish at all. There's almost always a side from outside the eight that jumps into top four contention the next year, because the competition is very even and often a couple of smart recruits, luck with injury/fixturing and a game plan tweak can see big improvement.

Did Treloar make Collingwood win more games? How about Dayne Beams in Brisbane? adding one elite player isn't going to fix the major deficiencies your team has.

I don't understand why you are simplifying it to "add Martin to the exact same team North has in 2017" though?

The obvious difference is that Buckley inherited a premiership contending list coming off a preliminary final defeat and then proceeded year by year to trade out talented, premiership winning, young playing stock and replaced it with inferior players. Treloar is the exception, but he is never going to make up for the lose of players of the ilk of Beams, Shaw, Didak, Cloke, Wellingham, Lumumba to name but a few...) NMFC have used their first and second picks in the draft every year since Scott arrived at the club, but haven't really exposed them to senior footy untill 2017 because of Wells, Harvey, Petrie, Dal Santo, Firrito all holding there spots up until that point. The cattle is there, they just need to be exposed to senior footy. A very clear difference between Collingwood and NMFC.

As for, This whole “Richmond jumped from 16th to possibly top 4 so why can’t we?” theory is rubbish... I would strongly recommend waiting untill the completion of the 2018 season before drawing such conclusion.

As for, if it were that simple then why doesn’t it happen more often?... Geelong did it post Dangerfield recruitment, WBD did it and both Freo and WCE did it in recent time... It actually is done quite often, but I guess you'll need to take off the rose coloured punt road glasses to see it.

What are you talking about.

Judd did plenty. At least we won a final or two with him

One of those was against the tigers... Almost forgot

And this is how we know you are a dumb troll. I was addressing the membership point. You claimed Dusty would get them past the 100k mark. I made the point not even Judd could do that at a "once" big club like Carlton.

Treloar isn't on Dusty's level and Beams has been plagued by injuries.

No he wasn't being a smart ass and saying 100 members for North I'm pretty sure.

When was Treloar or Beams ever considered the best player in the comp?

Cats added Danger and won 6 more games the following year.

I think he literally meant 100 memberships, as in the clever "lolnorf no fans" material.

Compare the startup three seasons of GC with Ablett to GWS without (until GWS's guys developed into stars in their own right). That's a pretty easy example of the difference an elite player makes - a couple of extra wins a season.

There's three or four games out of the two reasonably full seasons Beams has played in Brisbane that without him they probably lose. Again, about two extra wins a season.

I actually said 100 not 100k

I'm sure Judd wasn't brought in just to win a final or two. I'd think Carlton would of sold him the promise of being a real contender in his time there.
And there is nothing wrong with that BTW

Damn straight.

Carltons administration let him down big time.

As football departments were becoming more professional... Carlton lagged behind.

Adding two will. Especially when that major deficiency is the midfield.

I've seen North posters claim that the only difference between 2017 Richmond and 2017 NM is Dustin Martin.
Embarrassingly stupid, especially since said poster blocks every second poster because he is on a different level to them.

Add Dustin Martin and that team is still bottom 4.

Take Martin out this year and Rich don't even make that 8 lol

Has there been any evidence produced thus far that Dustin is going to accept North Melbourne's offer?
Is North Melbourne's offer definitely $1.5m?
Are journos throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks?

The bit I don't really get is why a premier player in a national comp would want to go to a struggling battler club like North. Does he want to play in front of 11k in Tasmania or 70k at the G... this comment will be dismissed but its actually relevant.

Endorsement wise, also surely his brand is maximised at a big club... surely you want to play in front of 80k to 90k at the G.... he won't do tgat with Norf

That was Wild Bill's argument not mine, he listed all North's close losses and said you'd win at least two of them if you had Martin.

Development isn't always a straight line either. Don't assume North automatically becomes a better side just because you put one more year into younger kids and maybe your injury list is shorter..

Adding two will. Especially when that major deficiency is the midfield.

You're not getting either though, so good luck with the number 1 pick in the worst draft this century:thumbsu:

Those teams you listed spent more than one year out of the finals before making the jump. Talk about bias, the majority of North posters want us to believe that North is the best wooden spoon side in history. Those sides you mentioned had bucket loads more talent in their teams.

Take Martin out this year and Rich don't even make that 8 lol

And Saints wouldn't be even be a mathematical chance of making finals of making it this year without Riewoldt and Montagna. Good luck trying to make it next year without them “lol”

Well if that's the case then I'm happy to say my apologies, but this thread has been a troll fest. How would you know given some of the quality postings in here?

I've never really understood this point of view to be honest. Just because we as fans love the atmosphere of a packed MCG, what makes you think this is something all the players enjoy? It's a completely different scenario to them.

I wouldn't be surprised if most players couldn't care less whether they played in front of 80,000 or 10,000. There is a chance many players even prefer having less attention or pressure on them.

You always hear the Swans players speak about how they enjoy the relative anonymity up there and it makes sense. Make good coin, play with your mates and enjoy success with minimum fuss.

Would be pretty funny if North blow all their cash on 1 player and don't have any money to pay for a kid like Jy Simpkin.

exactly whats gonna happen if they get dusty
