I'm looking at having a dabble at the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup with some of the long odds available at the moment.

A couple of months out, how does Helene Vitality look (not bad I think at 41 right now)? I am also hearing nothing but good things about Pugin, Rain Gaige and TAB favourite Vinnie Roe.

In contrast, I have been hearing bad things about Don Eduardo.

I know it's risky having a bet before the jockey's, barriers and all that have been worked out but what do you people more knowledgable than me think?

Stick with Don Eduardo CS the Freedman Stable will be setting him for the Caulfield Cup. and for a double into the Melbourne Cup - Tyrolean is getting my money!

Others to keep an eye on for the Carnival - Northerly, Chattanooga and Ustinov.

No fancy odds ... but Magical Miss is a handicapping certainty for the Melbourne Cup if she can avoid any weight penalty in the meantime. I'm hoping that if she runs in the Caulfield Cup she'll get beaten and avoid penalty.

The long straight at Flemington will suit her more than Caulfield. Get on her in the Turnbull this week ... she's a good thing.

Vinnie Roe. Dermot Weld knows what it takes to train a Cup winner and this thing has class written all over it.

Has raced in large European fields (about 12-15) but will have Mike Kinnane on it as well (Vintage Crop jockey), who is just about the best in the British Isles.

Don't think Kinane rides for Weld anymore, more likely to be Pat Smullen.
What can you tell us about him?

Seth.
