Welcome to Carlton :thumbsu:

Former club: Box Hill Hawks / Adelaide Crows
DOB: 07/11/1989
Height: 182cm
Weight: 83kg

Won the Box Hill best and fairest this year despite suffering a season-ending leg fracture in round 13. Is a hard-running, skilful midfielder with good speed and endurance. Had a rookie stint at Adelaide in 2008.

Sorry to disturb your board but I just wanted to pop in and say that he was one of my favorite players this year and I was hoping for the Lions to pick him up. Will have a Michael Barlow type impact and should play 20+ games next year. Will add to your already awesome and very strong midfield!

Absolute gun. Played against him while he was at the falcons, trained with him at Box Hill. Can say from first hand experience that he has a good work ethic, great skills and the boy just does not stop running!

Forgot to mention: He's a great inside player. Amazing in the middle of the stoppages with good positional sense and does all the 1%ers. Blocks for teammates and has the pace to stay outside the contest and hurt his man on the burst

Very disappointed from a Box Hill and Hawthorn perspective that he won't be playing for us next year :P

Ed is a fantastic player in his skills, endurance, tenacity, work ethic and teamwork. Once he is fully up and running after his leg rehab, I'm sure he will be a sensational pickup for you guys.

Good luck Ed!

Never seen him play but you know you have done well when opposition fans go out of their way to praise him on the Carlton board.

Ed Curnow wins Box Hill’s best and fairest

Ed Curnow has been awarded the Col Austen Trophy at the Box Hill Hawks’ best and fairest presentation night.

Curnow polled in 10 of the 12 games he played for Box Hill before fracturing his leg against Sandringham in round 13, ending his season.

Curnow amazingly polled five best-on-ground efforts in a row, stretching from Round 3 to Round 7.

Rookie on the run

AS A SHY 18-year-old kid entering an interstate AFL environment for the first time, rookie Ed Curnow could have been forgiven for easing his way into life as an Adelaide Crow.
Instead, he upstaged fitness gurus Nathan van Berlo and Brett Burton and immortalised himself in the Adelaide record books by setting a new club record for the 3km time trial in his very first attempt.
Curnow’s time of “around” 9m30s would have smashed the winning time of 10m23s set at last year’s NAB AFL Draft Camp, where Curnow was restricted by illness.

Rookie on the run

From 2007:

Just was curious on your thoughts
Very athletic player who unfortunatly was not allowed to do the draft camp testing due to an infection.
Will that hinder his chances of being picked up? I know he would have dominated the whole range of tests with PB's on the track as follows

100m 11.5
200m 23.2
400m 50.3
800m 1.54

yeah he wears a helmet, and he wasnt able to the the testing at draft camp cause he had a knee infection. hopefully recruiters take his beep test from the start of the year of 15.3. i know for a fact that he would of got a score of around this mark at the dc and he would of beaten the winning 3km time trial of 10.20mins comfortably i'd of thought....

1.54 for the 800 and 15.3 in the beep are great at that age.

Spot on assessment. Ed is an elite athlete and this season he was the standout player in the VFL until he broke his ankle. To complete the package he is a sensational young man and a great clubman. Ed has been training at Box Hill and based on his determination and work ethic I'm confident he will make a full recovery from his injury. Last night he was consistently at the front of the pack in the running exercises. If ever a player deserves another crack in the AFL it has to be Ed so I wish him all the best as a Blue.

Given his body size and endurance I wouldn't be surprised to see him play quite a few senior games next year....can't wait :thumbsu:
