Can anyone from the edfl tell me when do they think a team from the C grade will rise to the A grade...and before some readers start laughing the AFL with their plans beleives every team will play finals every x amount of years . Are their any forward thinking plans like this at EDFL hq ?

And at current Agrade teams how many players are home grown or have played at least some of their junior playing time at that club?

You never say never, it would be hard as clubs dropping to c grade will have trouble retaining players. Certainly a team at the top of c grade would be a chance with a solid 5-10 year plan or huge financial backing. Remember, marby were stuck at the foot of b grade for a while, pascoe vale were close to bottom 6 in 2008 from memory?

It's more up to the planning of the clubs than the league.

Pissed myself laughing when I read in the Herald Sun and in the local paper that the EDFL is vindicated in their decision of having a division 3 because of the results on the weekend. They mentioned the bottom 3 teams getting smashed by over 20 goals. What they didn't mention is that one team that did the smashing was supposed to be in division 3 with them under the EDFL's original plan...

Most people think A grade is a forgone conclusion and most people think B grade is a forgone conclusion too.

Will Taylors lakes win a game this year? Probably only in a massive upset. Same with Jacana. What they need is a 4 team Div 3 as there are 3 teams clearly struggling. Unfortunately for one club who is much stronger than the other 3, they'll have to join them. Maybe add the 2nd U18 team from the other clubs to make it 8 teams.

4 teams in C Grade? Surely you are joking?

Clubs like Roxy, Jacana, Moonee Valley and the like are struggling to keep players as it is. Having to play the same teams every 4 weeks isnt going to attract any more players to these clubs, even if it means more wins than usual.

If say East Keilor, who seem to be getting stronger, are the fourth club in C Grade, on this years form they will win the flag by 20 goals AINEC.

In regards to bringing in the 2nd u/18 teams, they will get flogged by Roxy and Moonee Valley every week. If they cannot get a game in the first u/18 side, then what hope do they have playing against senior sides?

I dont know the solution to C Grade, but i know i wouldnt want to play against Jacana every 4th week.

Merge div 3 of both edfl and nfl..... Like east and west conferences.... One team from each league plays off in the gf and promoted to div 2 of their leagues

Not an overly practical solution as neither league would go for it

Heidelberg west vs jacana would be a very even game.... The worst you've ever seen but even never the less

Nope. 2 more teams will make little difference IMO. I think the results will still be lopsided.

I agree. Attracting players will be a major issue, but I think that will be true of all 6 sides once they go down. I'll even be so bold as to suggest there will be an exodus when the divisions split next year or close to when the 6 relegated teams are known.

I think any of the 3 sides demoted will do much the same and therein lays the big problem. Not much will really change. Worst of all these teams will be stuck there right through 2013.

Well, floggings are exactly what we have now, so it's not like we'll be going backwards. You never know though, they might just be competitive.

I don't have a solution either, but I like kwame's idea too. It's an idea at least and something to have a chat about.

Demotion and promotion seems to work well in the ammos... Good chance of a flag for a demoted team. Teams demoted can easily attract players with he lure of a flag in a lower level

I seriously think kwames idea has merit. It would have to be better than the kids playing against seniors.

Two clubs they should look at getting over are Nth Brunswick (D4 ammos) and Coburg Districts (WRFL D2), both are in the region.

if the edfl were to relax their rule on senior clubs having juniors another club they should attempt to get is parkside from the wrfl...

also maybe st albans....not that far west

I doubt they will want any clubs without juniors. Plus they are looking to expand their "area". A sunbury team, toolern vale, a second Craigieburn club, the new "Lockerbie" estate near beveridge etc.

is definately room for a second craigieburn team.... cant see either the sunbury roos or lions joining the edfl...has been rumoured that the lions would come over for a few years now

Have they looked at why these teams are getting flogged?....i know from Roxy that they have only 4 players older than 21...so they are light on for senior game time they are like the suns in the AFL going up against the big boys. If they bring in more teams will they also struggle trying to get sponsers monies from an already tight market. Soccer and basketball are also trying to get the same $$$. Rumour has it also that Roxy`s has paid off past debts incurred by past pres. and is debt free how many A clubs could say that.
So will bringing in more teams help or hinder league?

Sounds like C grade is exactly what they need then. With a young list they can grow together and most would stay even in C grade.

Virtually no club with ambition would be "debt free", but most would have the books balanced by September/October.

More teams will help the league as competition will be more even and fierce. They need a combination of established and new teams from outside of the leagues usual area. A third grade is a good thing, if they do it right....

Everybody saying that the clubs that go down to C Grade will have a mass exodus of players and sponsors I think have it very wrong, the players playing at Jacana, Roxy, EK etc are not playing there because they want to be considered elite footballers they play because they want to have fun with their mates, stay fit and play for their club. They are more likely to leave getting flogged every week by 10 goals and knowing at the start of the season that they are no chance to play finals and no real incentive to train, with the C grade it will be far more competitive and the players playing will believe they are a chance to make finals and a gf, which will encourage the players to turn up to training and involve themselves in the club, I reckon it will really invigorate the clubs and is a great move by the EDFL.

Turri & Price are committed to C Grade and will make it work, where the clubs come from I am not sure but would have thought all of the clubs mentioned would have at least been asked the question about coming across. I think the issue with the RDFL & BFL teams coming across is that they currently charge gate entry to games, so if they were to come to the EDFL that is already extra revenue that they will need to raise to break even. Also the facilities and ground at all the clubs in those leagues are far better than in the EDFL, Sunbury Lions will go from playing at the Eastern Oval in Ballarat prob the best local footy ground in the country to playing on the cow paddocks at Taylors Lakes and Maribyrnong Park even in the RDFL the grounds and change rooms are far better than we have. So the question is what have we got that is better for them, travel is the obvious answer as well as a better standard of football and arguably better administration.

And the winner is......The edfl!
Of course the main men at edfl house want a C grade, more money.
More finals footy and a raise in proceeds to the bank balance.
It makes me sick they can fine clubs left right and centre but not try help these struggling clubs improve instead of leaving certain clubs high and dry.
Instead they pick on the weak, pick and choose what fines to hand out and go on there merry way.
Tip for the edfl, start to look after what they have.
It's the old saying "people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"

The big questions what really happen to the last general manager of the edfl?
Was he putting his hands somewhere where they shouldn't of been.............
