On the flipside, how impressive that a squad of such calibre can only cost around $150-$160k

There'd be a lot worse lists getting around the bush and the burbs costing far more than that to
trot out each week :p
One about 5km up the road - East side of said suburb

“We want to be clear, that despite this outcome, we do not believe we benefited in any way above the competition and all other competing clubs.”

 Wtf
The interruption of that comment is we do not believe we are alone in breaching the salary cap which may in fact be a very fair statement??

Needs to be explained

Transparency is important

League says “not wilful”

Clubs says “we got no advantage” and “timing of payments”

None of that lines up with what the outcome is (ie, guilty)

Hoping everybody just forgets and moves on isn’t the right way to go about it, this isn’t the AFL, real people are competing.

Make a proper statement, explain it so that there is confidence across the league. Did these administrators go to school? This is basic stuff.

Reading between the lines, my thoughts are that they accidently included some payments in the 2023 season that were actually meant for 2024. Hence why they stated they were well under for 2024. If this is the case then I have sympathy for them.

It would be great if the EDFL cleared it up though. Nobody wins whilst there is still confusion as to what happened.

Other way around is my guess. Which is how they were under after 2023 audit, withheld held some payments until the following year. Can’t see how they were under for 2024 though when this has all just come out.
And can we stop using the word “accidentally” please.

Sympathy? The crap spilling out of the EDFL and Keilor is almost as bad as the cheating. Reading this stuff is cringeworthy. Integrity is just a word without meaning.

The league and AFL VIC are weak as p#%s, had a chance to actually make a proper statement but have shirked it and taken the easy way out.

Anyone who has been around local footy at the top level in the Metro and Country leagues knows how laughable the caps are, clubs were paying a lot more then current cap 20 years ago.

Are we meant to believe its gone backwards since then? They haven't.

Wilful ignorance it is, play on. I just feel sorry for the next club that gets caught that doesn't have a supporter on the board or as strong a personality as coach because we all know they'll get absolutely hammered by the league.

The joke rolls on.

All competitions will have their faults but jeez, it really feels that whenever there's an opportunity to stand for something that the EDFL shit the bed.
It's a negotiated penalty, which Keilor would have agreed to..

Keilor: Cheats
EDFL: Gutless

Very, very generous interpretation of the situation.

Burkey wasn't a Keilor junior, I don't condone he's actions, but when I played with him, he was a very fair ball player
I would like to know who from Keilor Senior Management has the courage to front the club members, staff, family, players & the community and take accountability? Where is the head coach now? How is the footy god going to justify the sanctions on his media commitments now? Finally/ will the players who took the extra dollars now declare the additional income to the ATO?

I think Doona’s tongue is firmly implanted in his cheek.
Somewhat yes :p but again if that reported figure is what they've actually had to spend for that side then it's mighty impressive on the players behalf for taking unders.
Sadly a few it seems, chose to accept extra "unders" hence the situation we now see play out.

Given that points aren't touched .... the best list as we speak is still Keilor yeh?

I hear what you’re saying, the penalty is light.
But if I was a 2023 Keilor Premiership player I’d be filthier than a Bangkok toilet bowl.
Also, the penalty is more than just loss of points and dollars. It’s shame, pride, guilt and all that comes with it.
There’ll be relationships never to be mended and men with their heads hanging for years.

👍

Thinking they saying 2024 payments made early (sign ons) then included in 2023 which put them over.

Of course they could well be paying outside the cap but if that’s not on the books the league can’t really do anything about that. Ie some random group ‘loosely’ attached to Keilor pay player x 400 per game what can the EDFL actually do about it.
