That’s exactly what it’s about “Parent flex” my kids an AFL prospect that’s why “insert big club” got us across. Wank wank - then the dream doesn’t happen (99.9% of the time) and guess what, you’ve stock piled great 1 point talent.
Parents are increasingly crazed about how talented their kid is and giving them a pathway. My niece's U12 team won their GF this year. Their best player (talented, but she is 11 years old FFS) is leaving to go to the EFNL. Dad has shopped her around after deciding that her development is better served in what he's decided is a better league.

Strathmore by 8 goals
Apw should of beat keilor but we’re outcoached by mick
Don’t think Strathmore will fall for the same trick

Not sure I agree with that.
Keilor certainly got the jump but APW continued to close.
A few errant shots at goal in the last ( one or two goes through) and i think APW were ready to finish all over them. APW coach certainly got the best out of his side IM0. Great game and both well coached. I agree Strathmore have a great chance cause Keilor were obviously a few down ( not sure they’ll get up) I think APW were too. It was a belter of a game but they certainly did some damage to eachother.

Correct .... IMO Western Region - Williamstown Yarraville Werribee Hoppers Crossing all have the best kids and lots of teams .... Aberfeldie Strathmore Keilor seem to be the place to go in the EDFL .... Gisbourne Rookies and the Sunbury teams are the place to go in the RDFL .... Apologies if I've left any other bigger clubs out of my post ....

The big 3/4
It's changing in the WRFL - Sunshine and Newport in the 18.5's GF - two clear best teams in it this year and both clubs building piles of young talent in promising signs. Hoppers and Altona look to be in a bit of strife on that front. Poor crops coming through.

As for the movement of kids to bigger clubs...a lot of it is parent egos. It's apparently a boost to say "my son/daughter plays in the first team at Strathmore/Keilor or Abers" while sipping a latte at a cafe. Some parents...especially those that never played are real flogs.

Two solutions.
  1. Cap the number of junior teams per club and per age group at three.
  2. Some sort of player points system. Club can only field a team at max of 23 points
    1. Interleague team A player from other club = 3 points
    2. Interleague team B player from other club = 2 points
    3. If from another league and interleague player then add an extra point.
    4. These points carry over until a player turns 18 and only then do they start reducing.

Point system in juniors .....? Can it be done .....? Best bet is limiting numbers of teams clubs can have .... Although the strong will be still strong or stronger ....

I get it in the WRFL

Yes Sunshine and Newport this year are up their in the 18 A's even Newport in the 16'bs .... Williamstown jns from the scores I looked at (could be wrong) took the chocolates in all A grade jnr grades grand finals.... 12s 14s and 16s .... So no real change there ....

My son will be moving next year to Deer Park from Melton Centrals .... To try to play in the highest possible grade at 18 level then go into a stronger competition with a good senior structure minus the reserves which can only get better with more kids coming through .... Is that my ego? His choice and word of mouth from his mates that it's so good also love the fact he wants to play where I had played ....

Melton Centrals are getting their act together with their senior coach appointment. Ben Chapman is an excellent choice. Who knows? He might give your son a crack in the ones. Good luck with him!

Also....Williamstown being allowed to play GFs on their rubbish home grounds might have played a part in their success. St Bernards were also given the same luxury...real EDFL-level management there.

A tougher points system in juniors is required. Club-hopping needs to be limited as much as possible. So often you see clubs in second and third divisions give talented kids so much time and energy in developing them only to be treated in such ungrateful fashion by parents, who whip them out of there to the trendy clubs in a flash. It's heartbreaking.

I have seen that on Centrals socials .... They are scrambling now to keep the kids due to the past snr/jnr structure ....

Where does that leave the gun kids from Sunshine coming through in the 18s you speak about ? With the exodus of senior players leaving or that have left sunshine and signed at different clubs ....

My apologies for not knowing where grand finals have been played with Willy ....

The merry go round continues .... The kids will leave too odds on to drop back to div 2 next year !!!

Yarraville Oval what a ground to play grand finals at ..... Loved the Wyndhamvale Nth Foots atmosphere

it was a good coin toss to win (i assume that is still done). There was a gale blowing to the end that Keilor were kicking to in the first quarter. Keilor were kicking goals from way out. it was a bit flukey after that but still windy. APW just couldn’t quite bridge the gap.

Which part do you disagree with ?
Keilor don’t have injuries ?
After the first three goals with a 6 goal wind in the first I would of rolled one back and tightened up on the wings
But now the games done maybe lesson for next year

To be fair to Keilor they got a few of those goals from centre clearance. From the games over watched APW play that appears to be their strength. Keilor certainly took advantage of it.
APW looked like they sorted it out after that and in my opinion I thought were very strong as the game went on and at 3 quater time I honestly thought they might get up. Although i didn’t see Hanson in the second half and he’s a clearance gun. Keilor had plenty too.
Great game though. I wouldn’t underestimate them against Strathmore. Keilor have very good depth and are well drilled but Strathmore have their share of talent. Normally I’d tip Keilor but i really felt like they and APW banged eachother up.
That prelim was finals footy at its best.
Could go either way. Keilor will be sorer this week than last well.
Good luck to both.

I think Keilor kicked 4 from centre clearance. It’s 6 6 6 so no rolling back to stop those goals. Keilor only kicked another 4 up until midway through the last quarter.
i think the problem was APW mids started slowly. That was the difference in my opinion. Good game though.

And here I was thinking this is an EDFL forum !

All clubs face the talent to keep their kids.

No relegation again next season in the WRFL I think. I think any club, be it WRFL, EDFL Prem or anywhere else would be best served mixing recruits and their own kids with a free shot at staying in the top Div.

yeah i have. Keilor outgunned APW at centre clearance in the first. In the 3rd APW stayed the same but the mids did much better. That quarter almost turned the game for them.
Anyway that game is over. You’re obviously invested in APW and disappointed. For what it’s worth i thought they were enormous and are a club on the rise. Good luck.

What part of the replay sorloser? As gameplan mentioned, APW started slowly in Q1, Keilor kicked 9 and that’s the difference.

I’d argue an inability to execute in crucial moments cost the Eagles, plus a lack of composure going inside F50 in the last (after Taylor instructed players to hit up and lower the eyes).

For what it’s worth, I thought Taylor did a great job to keep the margin to 25 points at 3/4 time, with APW kicking with the breeze in the last, they just couldn’t execute when it really mattered.

Yes
9 goals in the first quarter
You answered the question

Thanks Basil

Think you should coach them

To be really fair 3 of the first half dozen goals where from soft not even there free kicks for easy shots to Keilor. Nice to have your own umps. Neutral at the game just trying to enjoy a game put in doubt by the whistle blowers. Impacts the game early and APW are just always chasing the game down.
