Some talented players and reputations in
Pacco 2’s yesterday, was very surprised with 3 in particular. Div.1/RDFL clubs should and probably already are right into these players. Pacco’s challenge recruiting so many points in will be keeping them all there. Few big names were less than impressive against a very limited Premier opposition. Will be interesting watch to see which way it goes
hugo Jenkins 40+ goals from WM in their Div 2 seniors
M. Taha - VFL Essendon
n. Perrone - last played a reserves game in 2016
M. Fahuna - seniors last 3 years
And a few others that played majority of seniors across the last few years all played in the 2s yesterday.
That side would beat a few Div 1 sides and be competitive against the top sides.
The HS side was the youngest they have fielded in 5 years. Development year for them,

So clubs aren’t allowed to have depth now. Only round one, there will always be injuries and availability issues

O'Kearney was injured in the first 5 minutes of the game and didn't come back on. Stretchers were brought on but he walked off with a little help. Suspect a concussion or neck injury the way he was being braced on the ground

Very, very good matchup otherwise. Keilor pissed away almost all of their chances in the third when the wind picked up and they had the run of the play. Strathmore kicked 2 or 3 to end the 3rd, then 2 quick ones to start the last and Keilor dropped their heads from there, Mores completely on top from that point. Keilor didn't score in the 4th until well into time on
O'Kearney has had a serious neck injury a few years back and was in a heavy duty brace for months

One of their 2s players is on a $1000+ contract . How long do you think he is running around missing out on that.

Yeah, just poach 14 year olds like the clubs benefiting from the points scheme now
Pretty sure Harris was doing this when he was coaching the u16s
Wasn’t Pacco’s 2023 under 18.5 flag achieved on the back of wholesale poaching of junior players from other clubs? How many of those blokes are now playing in the 1’s?

Turbo should be able to give you an unbiased and honest player by player update on that Stax.

Was at HS for the first half
Good quality half of football
Wayward kicking by PV (most under pressure) HS up by 1pt at the break.
HS may not be the walkover that every one predicted.
The final score showed the class of PV, looks like the 7-0 3rd qtr was the difference
First half was good quality? Were we watching the same game? Majority of PV’s entries inside 50 were nothing short of abysmal.

My rating system may be different to yours… you referenced one aspect of the game! Pressure was high, hence the score (PV behinds)
Poor - it wasn’t
Good - it was
High - it wasn’t

Bit different going after 17-18 year olds and done from clubs struggling to field 18.5 or 16s to clubs who go after players 12-13-14 years of age, therefore poaching kids from other clubs they played for from age of 9. At least 17-18 year olds can speak for themselves..
Get it right..

Those players were poached from NS/Hadfield at 14/15.
PV had Kako et al all play in their all conquering 16s Div 1 flag and those same players were then still playing in the 18s in 2023.
4-5 played 1s on Friday
Plus those that couldn’t break into their side.
It seems that the only way to be competitive is to target this age group.
SM are the outlier though..

It’s the same thing, Turbo, IMO, it’s arguably worse because it’s just overlooking the average kid to scoop the cream from the top.
Without being Pacco-specific, look at the actual mechanics of it. At least a younger kid brought across requires significant development and the club actually has to invest real time and coaching into them. By the time they are 16 to 18, they’re already in rep or school sides and much closer to a finished product. At that stage, it is rarely about helping the kid, it’s usually about the club landing a points reduction for a future senior player and pretending they are a pathway to the Cannons or VFL just to get the signature.
Another massive issue is the attrition. When you poach a kid, you break the connection with their home club and create a total disconnect. If they don’t end up being the superstar the powerhouse club expected, they usually don’t head back to help their old mates, they just quit the game entirely.
It also reinforces a clear distinction between the haves and have-nots when the stronger sides can just pick the eyes out of clubs that are actually trying to build something from the ground up.
I know it happens all across the state but even I know a few names in the EDFL who are guilty of working the phones on this, but those blokes need to **** off and leave the kids alone. Let them enjoy their footy with their mates instead of treating them like a points cap work-around.
It's gross, no matter who does it.

16-17-18 year olds are way too immature these days to make important life decisions let alone moving clubs for the right reasons .... Rather follow the pack than stop think and listen to important people in their lives !!

Strathmore is currently the benchmark of this comp and they had 9 homegrowns in the team on Friday.
Homegrown = only played for SM or higher level. Played on 33 pts, everyone chasing them and they have room to bring VFL players in as the please. Firm favs right now to go back to back
