Put a bit more time in tonight after my initial play through of being overwhelmed and getting stomped by the golden knight on the horse.

There is so much to take in and the combat is delicious. I went Prisoner and not quite got the handle on the spell side of things but have had fun riding around exploring killing bats and flaming ghouls.

Exploring a bit more of the land, slightly outside of the area of which I'm reasonably familiar with

Finally made it to 16 strength so I've switched to another weapon, doesn't really improve my attack too much (difference of +20 strikes) but we'll see if/when I get to upgrade the weapon what further damage it will do.

Oh and my empty flask of crimson tears seems to have fixed itself :P

If you beat those 2 bosses you'll be fine now, they were the hardest main ones. Smooth sailing from here. There will be a few comparable side ones but that's about it.

This post has given me confidence that I can get through the game. How would you guys describe the difficulty outside boss fights when you are just just fighting minions in different areas? Would you need to be over-leveled to absolute **** or just a level closer to the area recommended?

Still going to wait on a price drop but reading posts on here and online (avoiding spoilers too), it seems like lots of the stress of other FromSoftware games have been stamped out of Elden Ring.

I absolutely suck at games, let alone Souls types games. But Twitch streams showing the batshit crazy encounters, along with the awesome atmospheric level design is starting to grab me.

That and reading you guys talk about it is giving me a case of FOMO and wanting to give a try.

That being said I do love my TV in one piece.

I would encourage you to give it a go - this is probably one of the easier Souls games by virtue of being able to explore and level at your own pace. Way easier than Sekiro and I also thought that game was manageable despite me also sucking.

It's the easiest souls game just behind DS1. It's easily the most accessible FromSoft game. There's so many more options for people to take.

The post you quoted is highly misleading though. The first two bosses feel harder because you're less likely to have all the good loot and levels you can get later if that makes sense. Everyone struggles with different bosses. There's some absolutely brutal bosses later on.

I just bought this game and basically have came outside that first intro tower. Where am I meant to go. All I see is down the hill a knight on a horse that will kill me 1000 times and another 1000 because his just a prick. How do I level up in this game and is there any indication where to go first.

It makes sense, level up, get better. I think it’s daunting because of the reputation of these games. But this one does sound very different with the options you have to level up.

I appreciate the reply mate.

On the map there are these yellow markers that point you in the direction to progress the story

Everytime you kill enemies you get runes which is currency to buy things and also used to level up at a grace spot if you die you lose the runes you collected so make sure to get them back because if you die again they are gone. I lost 15k runes that pissed me off haha

Just explore, kill enemies and level up that’s what I’ve been doing if a boss is too hard come back to it later

Im new to the souls games and I love it

Bit of a steep learning curve to begin with once you get the hang of the game mechanics and accept that you will die a lot it’s a great game

About 7 hours of game time (6 hours, 20 minutes on my current character). Now that I've leveled up my stats a bit, I did more exploring and found myself at the central hub for the game (the round table). There I was able to upgrade my weapon via the blacksmith, I'm now pretty much one shotting the basic enemies now and much more confident against the slightly more dangerous foes (the Havel style dude on horseback etc).

Got killed by a gigantic flower, Poison Ivy would be proud!!!

What’s the best way to kill giants that roam the world?

I've killed 2 so far (and been stomped by many others) by using my Dark Souls Iron Golem strategy of sticking between the legs and dodging when he goes for his big leg stomp!

Beat one bear and I'm thinking I'm pretty good
Then I meet another bear 3 times bigger than the original one

Uh ohhhhhhhhhhhh DEAD

The game can be the easiest in the series depending on how you want to play. It heavily rewards exploration - I felt the game opened up more and I understood it better by the time I killed the second main boss. Also in this game you can find equipment, weapon skills and summons that can make pretty much any play-style you want to play viable - which is another reason why I think it's the most accessible FromSoft game to date. I've seen people shred bosses with just bows at a range, or using double shields for example - so if you don't like relying on dodging and learning enemy patterns, or want to be defensive and safe then it all works. Random enemies in the open world and in dungeons aren't that troublesome. This game has a lot of repeat mobs and bosses so you can get used to them a lot quicker too.

The beauty is that there isn’t any indication on where to go. You go where ever you want.
You will die ALOT of times. I’m talking hundreds.
Be patient and don’t bite off more than you can chew.

I did!

The message feature had me in stitches and already won me over, the combat feels deep but fun.

Only problem was no ultra wide support on PC. I played an hour and had some fun, but put in for a refund and might get it on console down the track as I've already got a decent backlog.

Looking forward to playing it again though.

Is the message feature from other players.

I lost nearly 200K runes once because a stupid message was somehow in the same spot as my runes and I got killed reading it without getting the pick up. Usually I'd be pissed because people intentionally leave messages on interactable objects and that gets annoying, but this time was actually funny and dumb luck.

Plenty of videos on youtube to help you with getting started.

The buffs to bosses and reduction of flasks has made co-op pretty difficult. My hosts keep getting greedy and dying, I'm using sorcs in my single player run but am having to go full tank mode because none of these people seem to know how to utilise their i-frames. It is good that they've balanced summons a bit more though.
