Thanks guys, but 'tis all good - I did EB's 7 day return thing. More power to ya if you have the patience, but its just not my thing. Spending 2 hours memorising a boss' attack pattern or looking at a guide for literally every encounter isn't my idea of a good time lol.

And this is supposed to be one of From's more accessible games isn't it? No idea how people are doing Dark Souls. Masochists! :tearsofjoy:

Feel bad for doing it, but looked up where the cookbook for the sleeping pots were (can't believe I never came across it) and the method for GodSkin Duo. First blatant look up of something for me but dont think I would be able to get further otherwise. Haven't beaten them yet but imagine it will be a lot easier.

My phone sits next to me constantly Googling shit when playing this game. It sucks but without it I wouldn't have poured 60+ hours into it. Well done for only using it for those 2 instances.

I tried a lot of methods with them (including the sleeping pots), what worked for me was playing them like it was Ornstein/Smough from Dark Souls. Kept them separate and when I was able to... belted them with attacks individually. It was mostly down to luck though. Subsequent times the battle got easier (in part because of being stronger in the stats and more powerful weapon(s) in journey 2 - 5 etc).

I've actually started playing Elden Ring from scratch again, on pc as a Samurai. I wish I had done it sooner - the most recent patch has taken away one of my rune farming methods (the rock climbing and jumping off while slashing the weapon lol)... god damn those invisible walls!! :P In fairness my first play through on Xbox (and pc), I did get through the game without THAT particular farming location. But it was handy to have in subsequent playthroughs to be able to build things up quicker.

In any case currently on pc, I'm in the process of taking on Queen Rennala. Have knocked over a few of the dungeons in Limgrave, got the Bell Bearing from the cave which means I can now buy Smithing Stone 1 & 2 at will (well as long as I have the runes), have a +9 uchigatana and have also gone back to my tried and trust Lordssworn Great Blood Sword. Also picked up the Blood Hound Fang (something I neglected to do in prior playthroughs).

Crystalians are pesky enemies (granted I've only beaten the one from the dungeon that I got the Smithing Stone Bell Bearing), I was only doing 9 damage with my sword............ something always happens in each playthrough where they get weaker over time, and I was able to remove 1/4 of the health bar with subsequent strikes. Just find that bizarre.

You know the secret to beating them is blunt weapons right? Stagger them and then they take damage like normal enemies.

Yes in my original character playthroughs I do have a upgraded stone hammer which knocked them out quick (as fast as the tutorial boss), yet to acquire said weapon on this new playthrough

I'm just surprised/not sure why my weapon of choice did 9 damage per hit at the start (knowing the enemy is weaker to blunt force attacks rather than swipes/stick moves), then toward the battles conclusion was taking massive chunks of health off. Even my spirit ashes (the 3 wolves) died fast.

They need to be poise broken before you can do any decent damage to them.
From the wiki:
  • Can be poise broken, which allows for a critical attack.
  • Defenses do changes after poise-break - before that they have large damage reduction towards most types of damages (excluding Strike Damage). After poise-break they can not only be staggered for riposte, but also be interrupted with every hit.
And also a good video on stance breaking

Been playing for the last week or so...man im way out of my depth on this on.
Great game but its hard as hell.

As a non Souls/Borne fan this was the hardest game I ever completed some of the bosses took me hours lols make sure you level up heaps.
Yep same, i've tried countless times to get into soulsbourne games but just can't. So Elden Ring is definitely the hardest game i've ever sunk my teeth into.
Ultimately its also the most rewarding game i've finished.

I was laughing on my 2nd run I was so op that I was melting the early bosses that I really stuggled with in my original play through and it felt good rofl

It's a lot more fun melting the bosses you struggled against early on :P

New PVP mode being added tomorrow.

Even though I'm an utter scrub, massively proud I stuck with it and got up to Godskin Duo before taking a break. Game has been one of my most enjoyable experiences in the last few years. If the Witcher upgrade wasn't coming out soon, would be getting back into this.

Speaking of which.....may actually ramp up the difficulty in Witcher because of persisting with ER.

What was with the random who snuck up there to talk about Bill Clinton right at the end of this game's award.

People saying he is some right wing groyper dude who was wearing yeezys and appeared on infowars

Fitting that there's an invader as Elden Ring wins GOTY

Currently getting review bombed on metacritic for the crime of... beating GoW at the game awards.

Will always laugh at the people who suggest user ratings carry more weight than critic ratings.

So many gamers are entitled, tantrum throwing babies.

My favourite types of user reviews and comments are the kinds that for example that make out like they're the only people on earth to have played both and are therefore the authority on the subject. Best comment I've seen so far has been the most typical Twitter kind of reply where somebody was very passionately against Elden Ring because it didn't have the same accessibility features as GoW.

I'm still amused that so many can get so worked up about something that matters so little. I sometimes wonder even on here why some games are liked more than others but it's just a reminder that we all like different things for different reasons. At the end of the day GoW Ragnarok won more awards that I'm sure the individual teams of those studios would be very proud of, it just didn't win the big one at one particular awards ceremony. I'm sure GoW will feature as GOTY at some large publications.

Some of them say stuff like 'too similar to Dark Souls 3' or 'Sekiro is better' before giving ER a 0/10... Trying to somehow add credibility to their review despite it being completely incongruous to like other From games and then somehow find ER to have seemingly no redeeming qualities. 😅
