Where is Harper at? I want him at Tigerland...heard he was playing VFL reserves???

Building up his endurance, it isn't quite AFL standard yet. He has had injury issues, went to have minor surgery recently, will have another big pre-season hopefully and should get more opportunity next year.

Club still rates him very highly.

:p

I have grim doubts we will win a flag before Boomer and Dish retire so not sure if this is a plot to improve the coach's longevity or a red hot crack.

We got back on the park with good sound drafting, a lot of our senior players let us down, they are inconsistent and don't often fire up in big games. I think we may be prematurely heading for top up. It is fair to say our recruitment of players from other clubs isn't so flash.

Dale Thomas just turned 26, so you he should have 4-5 good years left, that is worth just sacrificing some cash.

But to give cash and good pick/player for someone that has 1-3, given we finished 10th it is not like we are on the cusp of a flag, a lot of players from 2012 have chronically under-performed in 2013, we still have a lot of inexperienced players.

If we just were a lot more defensive and didn't repeat the same mistakes week after week I would expect us to improve with the same squad.

I don't mind getting NDS as just a free agent, think it is a bad mistake to lose too much for him. I am not over the moon on Betts at the money he is asking, I am holding out hope Adelaide beat us to him.

If we don't trade picks or players to get them, I'm all for getting both of them.

You may well say that but plenty wld completely disagree with you
the 4 (or 5) above us aren't much better, arguably worse
pies heading down, cats and hawks ageing warriors soon to be taking that last run round the G
leaves syd and freo
maybe crows and WC to bounce back
still abit early for suns and gws

if this isn't a window of opportunity over say the next 3 years while wellsy is still going and really petrie may not be AA but it wldnt surprise to see him play til 2015 imo

we have Top 4 written all over us

Agree now is the time to top up and go for it. We were 10th but not that far off it, a little extra improvement and skilled outside mid should see us ultra competitive with any team anywhere. We dont need to go over the top, just get a good FA like NDS and continue building our list for the long term via the draft.

I've heard a few rumours about young Tom Curren...has a year to go on his contract but there is an opinion out there that his foot may be in the Matthew Egan basket of foot injuries. Everyone obviously hoping that will not be the case. The club will stand by him this season and to the end of his contract obviously, but confidence in him recovering fully is starting to fade.

Pretty disappointing news, if true. Does seem probable though, given the nature of the injury and the number of surgeries he already has had on it.

Shattering. Given this, do we move him to the rookie list while we wait and see?

I wouldn't take it as gospel, but the person who told me is usually spot on with this sort of stuff. There is still faith there that they will get it right but it's a tough one to manage.

Ricky Henderson requesting a return to Vic, Matt Thomas just got the flick from Port .......more players every week, and Buckley and Mick havnt done their list yet.

Is that true about Henderson? If it is I'd be all over him but I'm sure he only just singed a 2 or 3 year deal earlier in the year

That was my thoughts, from what I've hear he won't be running until the end of pre-season so he is unlikely to be available for senior selection for the first half of this year without a full pre season
From memory we can move him straight over without delisting and drafting... Or was that a gentle men's agreement between all clubs? We did do similar with another of our players, can't remember who tho (Ross?)

You're talking about Tom Curren the St Kilda player right?

Our Tom Curran is tackling sand dunes and throwing around hay bails as we speak.

Say it so bro.

We can just put him on long term injury list and promote a rookie, like Ben Ross. ;)
Yeah also a possibility (LTI) I was more thinking it would give access a spot on the main list for either another kid, a FA or a trade. Important given we have a few on the list which are still in a wait and see stage and not a lot which are deserving a delisting.

New to this guys, but just want to throw the name Callum Bartlett around in the thread, watch a bit of the Lions Ressies up here and has a sweet left foot, plenty of smarts and I would think well worth a rookie spot. carved up in Sundays NEAFL Grand Final and has spent four years in system, albeit injured in first two? thoughts

Agree. Callum Bartlett kicked some cracking goals on the weekend in the NEAFL Grand Final. He's got a bit of pace too.
