List Mgmt. End of Year List Changes

Here’s my view. We’re committed to Taranto & Hopper long term, so suggestions to trade them are wasteful- not happening.
Prestia is the slow one we need to move on. He’s not contracted and actually harming his legacy - the game is speeding up whilst he’s slowing down. Couple that with going to ground more often, fumbling and trying to take on younger, hungrier players, he’s become an on field liability.
We need to turbo charge our mids - last year the only genuine mid we took was Smillie. He’s not quick.
We desperately need 2 genuine quick mids that can rack up 30 + regularly.

Today i learnt that the future is ****ing grim.

Especially if the Pro Yze, pro midfield posters have their way.

It's all on you now and you are in a rapidly shrinking minority. I hope you are happy. And I hope you are ready too because we keep receipts.
A bit dramatic, but today was a reality check. Much as I wanted to win, maybe (hopefully) we saw how far away we are and what we need to do to avoid being a basket case.
Desperately need to move on from the slow lumbering mids and get in 3-4 athletic, ball winning impactful mids. Must get 2 hits with our first 2 picks and become attractive option for players to come to Punt Rd.
But if we are stuck with Hopper, Taranto & Prestia by this time next year, yep I agree with you wit a grim future.

Those calling for us to flick Taranto and Hopper, how are you going to go when they finish 1/2 in the B&F this year?

Yes they are slow, yes they don’t have the best skills in the side. BUT without them imagine where we would be.

Prestia I agree is cooked, his second half of the year has been average at best.

We need these experienced guys in to help the development of your Lalors, Hottons, McAuliffes etc etc.

Norf flicked their experience years ago and are paying the price, still. We can’t make the same mistake.

Would I do things differently and change up the midfield more often though? Yes, yes I would

oh, it can get worse. None of our young mids are ready to step into a 1st or second string role. They'd get cooked every contest.
Can or will get worse
Maybe it Maybe it won't
No one really knows 😔
Rather have 2 more shit years without Hopper and tarranto
Than 2 more shit years with Hopper and tarranto

Without them we would be similar down the bottom but hopefully with some upside

Until we move on at least 1 of Hopper and Taranto, we are just trying to make the best of a bad situation by playing them.

Yze wants to put his stamp on the club. Well, he should grow a set and trade them.

It was a huuuuuuge mistake getting both of them in. Keeping both of them on top of Prestia, Ross, and other weaponless plodders is madness.

The hawk troll is an utter **** looking to capitalise on the boards meltdown. We already traded out players surplus to needs but unlike the hawks who bought high and sold low we played moneyball getting in two mids on the cheap salary wise.

We recognised we needed to stockpile picks and youth and we did that last year with Bolton, Rioli and Baker except instead of taking throw away picks like they did we got multiple first round picks.

They haven’t learned selling the farm for a cooked Barrass and paying top dollar for Josh ****ing Battle thinking they were close to a flag (they are miles off)
I'm not trolling.
I genuinely see a host similarities between our two clubs particularly in respect to the ready made mid duo we both traded in.

I will just say re Barrass we didn't overpay courtesy of Carlton kindly giving us their 2025 pick one and pick two.

Thanks for beating them btw! It really set the scene for their season

And even if you were, no one is more entitled to troll thsn a Hawk supporter. We saw what your club did, we chuckled and laughed about how you misjudged where your list was, how you went to the bottom depths of the ladder, how then you had to start from scratch and then congratulated ourselves that we wouldn't be following suite. You were a cautionary tale and we didn't learn from it.

Until we accept that Hopper and Taranto are part of the problem of having the worst midfield in the league and not merely incidental to it, we won't progress. Immediately getting rid of both is probably a bridge too far, but we should certainly be looking at at least moving one along. It was a mistake to get both of them (especially for the draft capital we paid for them) and they aren't going to get any faster or more skilled as they get older. Our bottoming out process has a long way to go yet.

Fact is the AFL equalisation measures make sure that after 3 flags you're going to spend a bit of time in the wilderness.

Unless of course you're Geelong with limitless pubs, farms and ambassador deals...

You sold the farm for Barrass who is no better than what you had in Frost. There's a reason the Eagles were happy to ship him off.

There are no similarities between tiges now and hawks then. You neglected the draft for years. We took a heap of early picks. You had to have a fire sale coz your cap was cooked. We have stacks of room in the cap and a heap of early picks

Gotta say people are chicken little's. We are in this for about 3+ years from now. What we should be doing is building for 2028 and onwards. Not trying to win more games next year as the main goal.

Right here right now our midfield is slow and of middling skill - especially kicking.

But we have drafted Lalor (brilliant skills), Hotton, and Smillie as mids. 2 of them come good and our midfield is very different.

We also have a lot of young guys who are starting to run through the midfield offering pace and skill - Campbell, McAuliff, MRJ, Sonsie (to some extent). These guys aren't setting the world on fire. But if one or two get to B grade AFL mid it also changes our midfield a lot.

Just turning what we already have into AFL mids will take a couple more years.

And then we have 2 high end picks this year plus Kellaway.

We have to suck up the slowing down of Nank and Prestia, and the limited capabilities of Hopper and TT. they protect our younger guys from being beaten up and provide leadership and mentoring in the important first couple of years. It doesn't matter if that leads to a few more losses, if they improve the development of our kids.

The long game is not 2026, or 2027. It's 2028 onwards.

Right now we have a base line game plan and lots of players not really AFL standard. Over the next few years we should see improvement in the game style and player capability. That's why we keep these old bastards who aren't looking great. They take the hits and help player growth.

So next year we get another top 5 pick. Hopefully a high end mid to build out a team that can compete for a long time.

McIntosh gone this year, and it's likely that all 3 of Broad, Prestia and Lynch finish up after next season. I feel like it'd be better to lose 2 senior guys this and 2 next year. Broad and Lynch are contracted.....that leaves Prestia.

I don’t think it’ll make a huge difference in Prestia’s case as he will likely play a back-up role to our young mids next year. Young mids usually have decent output from their 3rd year onwards so we may not notice his retirement.

I actually wouldn’t put it past Lynch or Broad going one more. Lynch looked good v North so it could be a case of needing a rest every now and then plus it was his first near full season. Broad still offers value so it really comes down to his body/pace, could be a decent back-up in 2027.

Broad has already said next year will be hos last. But things can change.
