I'm in my living room and I gave Doku a standing ovation as he went off.

O'Reilly has had Salah in his pocket all game. Keeps his position to stop him cutting in on his left foot.

City fans singing 'sacked in the morning, your getting sacked in the morning, your sacked in the morning" (im assuming to Arne Slot)

City fans taking the piss but there are worrying signs for Liverpool. That's 5 defeats in the last 6 games and even some of the early wins were a bit scratchy.

Salah's form has dipped massively. I don't think it can be put down to TAA not being there. None of the big money signings have worked out so far. Wirtz, Isak, Eketike, Kurkez, Frimpong. Some of that due to injuries.

City with a deserved win, the VAR call on the Robertson offside was poor, would have brought it back to 1-1 but wouldn’t have affected the end game result, have seen offside players standing near the keepers vision before and that’s not been considered influencing play. Check out Athletico’s first goal v Liverpool in the CL for example, the laws are the same.

Ekiteke has been good.

It's succession planning, but clunky while he's still there. If they'd done nothing and he'd left and they'd then brought in players everyone would criticise them for having no foresight. It's just an awkward period.

For me the Van Dijk goal should have stood, but the rules are so confusing nowadays who knows what the actual correct decision should have been.

Again, for me, hes not interfering with the keeper so play on.

Great stuff from us, particularly pleased that Doku is starting to get a bit of recognition. He gets slagged off a lot and I'm not sure why. But hes excellent to watch, and his effectiveness on the ball is getting better and better.

Yes definitely, an element of succession planning and exacerbated due to the tragic events of losing Jota.

The outlays on Ekitike (who is class) and then Isak is understandably what comes under the spotlight. He will come good eventually, because aside from Haaland he’s arguably the next best striker in the league. However for his injury track record, and that record fee, genuine question marks over acquiring him as opposed to investing in 2-3 players across the squad. Liverpool seem much easier to play through and over this season, and strengthening in those areas seemed more of a priority IMO.

No.

What’s confusing is why a professional footballer would lazily stand in an offside position like that. Had Robertson moved his arse quicker than he did (or at all), there would have been absolutely no problem.

I re-read the rules a couple of times and I still couldn't work out why the goal didn't stand. He was clearly in an offside position but he didn't try to play the ball or interfere with Donnarumma. There was a ref on the commentary (not sure who) who said it was due to him being in the 6 yard box. Was there a directive about the interpretation? The on-field (subjective) decision was offside so maybe VAR didn't feel there was enough to recommend a review. I wonder if Howard Webb will clarify.

All well and good but standing in an offside position isn't necessarily an offside offence.

It was put down to the discretion of the referee if Robertson was impeding the goalkeeper. I can see where he thinks that Robertson was. Another referee could have gone the other way on it.

But oh well, it’s over now.

I watched Sunderland v Arsenal but i only noticed after the commentators mentioned this.

Sunderland tried to negate Arsenals throw ins, which is cheeky of them to do so.

Can’t take credit for this one, but another theory I heard today was that the goal was ruled out to appease Carragher. He’s made it known he’s not a fan of low standard set piece goals :D

Liverpool have spent a fortune and got worse somehow

Wirtz gotta be flop of the season for the price tag alone
Isak is somehow an even a bigger one so far especially as he has PL experience

The silence from the media is deafening. Paul Pogba was getting absolutely rinsed weekly by the media for putting in infinitely better performances than what Wirtz is.
