Konate has been poor all season but now van Dijk is making mistakes that he used to lambast his fellow defenders for. The midfield is not working hard enough when out of possession which puts pressure on the defence.

Fair play to Chiesa, he looks like a great defensive player. I didnt think he would close Isidor down in a 1 on 1 duel with this head start.

Some would argue that, placed in that sole defensive position specifically to defend against the sole striker counter attack outlet, he got caught ball watching to a degree and was 10 yards behind to start off with.

Great recovery to make up for the error, absolutely.

Shots mean very little in a game like this. You’re always going to have more opportunities after an early lead because Chelsea need to force the issue.

I think Brades is exaggerating how bad he’s been but, whilst he’s had a couple great seasons, a lot of VVD’s time is spent passing on his other cb to make the challenges and then he mops up the second challenge. Think he’s getting found out a bit now having to make more challenges himself combined with the team all over the shop and underperforming.

I cant deny right now in terms of importance of confederations for Premier League outfits, the African confederation is probably the 3rd most important continent after Europe and South America to the PL.

I must say as a neutral I am looking forward to this tournament. It is a pity about the scheduling but I have heard past coaches being critical of the tournament eg Jurgen Klopp. Get the feel for alot of these African based players winning the AFCON is more important to them then doing well with their European clubs.

Kind of similar to Baleba when he started in the Prem for Brighton, but thought he was probably our best player tonight.
