The reason Essendon get a lot of the marquee games is because Sheedy was a better salesman than a coach. He helped build those games.

Maybe. As I said I don’t think Essendon particularly want it... they’re really keen on the Thursday night vs Carlton. Though that’s probably the more sought-after timeslot and there’ll be stiff competition for that.

Highly doubt that. I think Essendon want the permanent fixture against North because of the “kick for kids” fundraiser.

All that leaves is the annual Carlton embarrassment to schedule in the most public way possible and thats all of them

Not sure why fans of other clubs are bitching. Essendon draw big crowds, if St Kilda want a marquee match then pick a game such as St Kilda vs Carlton then go to Carlton and start making something out of it. But they don't because they know it will only get 30k people there. Marquee games are created by the club (in our case Sheeds), not given to you.

As a minority team I hope if we ever get the chance to host a marquee match we demand it against Coll/ess/rich there supporters show up irrespective of ladder position. The only match we have that is semi marquee is maddies match and Richmond do heaps to help with the promotion

As a North supporter
I want Essendon to be our opponents on Good Friday but jazz the game up a bit more.
For starters play the VFL as a curtain raiser starting at midday to entain the supporters of both clubs.
After the VFL game organise some pre game entertainment with a well known Australian music act for the crowd with also a motorcade of sick kids that have been in the Hospital that are currently or ex patients of the Hospital with a EX legend of the competing clubs to be in the car with them.
EGustin Fletcher ,Brent Harvey ,Matthew Lloyd and Wayne Carey.
Then start the AFL game at 4pm.
After the game present a Trophy to the winning team and BOG Medal for best player to be presented by a patient and an administrator from the RCH.
Also let Essendon and North Melbourne alternate the home game.
EG:This year North next year Essendon .
Move the game to the MCG gives more people a chance to see the game from different clubs as well.
So Essendon and North supporters maybe this could happen and work or maybe not but remember the day is all about raising money FOR THE KIDS to make their lives better as it's not about club politics or feeding the egos of club administrators it's about the kids.

I'm leaning towards an intraclub marquee game. Essendon shirts vs skins at the G in front of 85k.

I think this would work and should be played on the Saturday night that the Tour de France starts.

Could be marketed as the "pharmacy on the field day" and then we could all turn over to watch the "pharmacy on wheels".

Essendon are trying to build it up so that when Geelong ask for 11 home games KP, They will be spared the trip because of this 'blockbuster'. Geelong like it because it suits them to play as many games at the MCG as possible.

Believe it or not. We did have a special match against St. Kilda for a few years. An annual Monday night match.

They were horrid.
