Big test this weekend v Collingwood. If they were to win that, they're very much a finals contender. Probably still a couple of years away from contending though.
The knives will be out again after this game. The rollercoaster ride that is the footy media.

Weren't Essendon like 6 and 2 last season before their decline? Like GC they also start fast and finish 8-12.

Not sure they started well but fell apart due to injuries, no depth and poor fitness standards.

They seem to have addressed 2/3 of those things (depth and fitness) over the offseason so optimisticly should be a bit better through the middle of the season.

The last 6 games are a brutal mix of most of the best teams. So won’t expect anything towards the end

If they are winning those games they will have earned the right to be considered a decent side

Probably speaking on behalf of most Bombers supporters but we're under no illusion as to the teams we have beaten are gettable on the day and we've been lucky to get the Dogs a couple of times recently and the Crows are underperforming and showing to be a bottom 6 side.

Win agains the Pies and perhaps we start to be spoken about in a positive manner for once

It's sort of impressive that Essendon are 4-2, the 2 losses have been away to top 6ish teams and yet they've still managed to squeeze in a media driven "Bombers in crisis" week.
we're always in some kind of crisis, be it drugs, generally being shit or something in the middle

This Essendon side feels different, the pressure, the work rate, the positives are starting to heavily outweigh the negatives.

This is by no means the finished product either, we could still use a top quality small forward and a consistent ruck.

The x and d grade guys are improving and not leaving it up to the same 3 - 4 guys to win the game for us.

To me the 95% thing both telling but also hopeful.

If you break down the play between stoppage and transition things make more sense.

Good stoppage team. Bad transition team. Can turn a sure thing goal into turnover better than almost any team in the league.

They don’t kill teams because their transition is bad and can’t pull away when they should. They have had 2 games where they didn’t win stoppages (against very good sides) and gotten blown out.

If they can sort their transition issues it will be very much equivalent to Happy Gilmore learning to put. Would be transformative.

Essendon comfortably beat Sydney in stoppages/clearances.

Maybe one day we'll get to describe North as just mediocre
Hey mate, thanks for the feedback.

Could you let me know the date of Essendon's last final win?

Cheers,
