Ah, i see how it is....yeah, "whatever you do" .....
It's cool for every second poster on here to bag out Knights, Lonergan or Atkinson over and over again, month after month, but i question the shut down value of Slattery for the first time in about 2 months along with a number of other issues relating to list development, and it seems is that's taboo.
And surprisingly some guy called "Slattery 20" cracks the sads and tells me he's ignoring me from now on for bagging out his Henry ...... Got it.

I think Slattery is either overrated by supporters or underrated- very few people see him as the average player that he is. He does an okay shut down role however he just lacks basic skills such as the ability to handball under pressure (he has these loopy handballs which create more pressure).
He does not seem to take the game on very well so Hird coming in may be beneficial for him with a more defensive mindset.
Ideally he will play okay next year but I would hope by round 11 next year another defender is putting pressure on him for his spot (apart from McVeigh).

Got to disagree with you there. S20 has always been open to my opinion on Hank - which is negative - so I think you're being a tad unfair.

And maybe myself and others are sick of reading claims that Slattery is such an effective shut down player (i was responding to a comment myself remember??).
You don't think i'm sick of reading about how much everyone seems to hate Lonergan as a player? ...i rate him as a rotating mid but don't feel the need to rip in with the name calling and telling posters to keep their opinions to themselves whenever i read it.
Same with Knights for the best part of 12 months....i saw potential in the overall phylosophy of his vision and was prepared to give him time to see how it panned out (until a bit after the break when i conceded it was becoming hopeless), yet i can assure you i've had to wade through 100 times more negative shit posts on Knights than there ever has been on Slatts.....again, i didn't feel it neccessary to inform posters that this site is better off without them like you did.....

Can't agree, I've never heard anyone say that a premiership can be won without defense, without a doubt Essendon's defense is the worst in the league.

If someone was claiming Neagle was a goal kicking machine i'm pretty sure you'd pull them up on it from time to time because you know him not to be.
Other than including Slattery in my de-listings/list management comments (amongst many other players), i don't believe you've had to "endure" me making any comment on him since he last played late in the home and away season a couple of months back....

Personally I am going to hold onto the reservations I had on players untill midway/ the end this year and then make my judgements (execpt Houli for other reasons than his playing ability).
If our midfield functions a bit better and run both ways we will see a marked improvement in how the defensive players look. And if we improve our skills and footy smarts under this new coaching regime then our fowards will look a lot better.
I dont think it is fair to judge a lot of the players, especially defenders, based on the last game plan where they were under the most presure in the comp. I think Sir Jim has the same idea too. I will be expecting a clean slate to be given this year and the tough calls to be made at the end of the year.

....once it became apparent to me it wasn't going to happen, i felt it was time to move him on.
I was more commenting on the 27 million posts bagging him earlier on in the piece (say prior to the mid year break). It was during this time that i was reading all the negativity yet still willing to let things pan out before condemming him.

I didn't realise the point of debating was to convince others to think like you, but i do agree with your overall asessment about moving on.....
.....i have an opinion on Hank, and obviously i can't change my mind until he at least plays again. I certainly will be a lot more reluctant to voice any such views in future so you can rest easy and throw around tags like gun shut down defender all you like (not made up, seen it claimed a fair few times here believe it or not)
If he plays again and provides what i percieve to be good defense or does a good, consistent job, i'll be the first to change my mind on him as i have no ego invested in this......i merely call it as i see it.
and of course i am hoping that he can, even though i clearly have doubts.

How many games will Atkinson get in '11?
While it's odd he's still on the list, it does mean someone sees a use for him. Maybe he's just there for a bit of insurance in case of injuries. Could cover a Dempsey to some extent IMO.

I find it hilarious this thread...
Here's a bloke, 'Hank', who puts his head over the ball, never shirks a contest, takes the most dangerous small every week, has the ball coming down into the back line at a ridiculous rate and does his job without fancy boots, whacking blokes, beating his chest or asking for pay rises. He can do the job on Didak, LeCras and Rioli (please don't riffle through stats to argue against, it gets boring)
