Im with ydcc, I don't see "it" with Alwyn. Has moments but that's it. It is hope thatseduces us into wanting more.
I can see that, I'd love for him to have a 'step' and do something a bit more than just being in the right place ahead of the ball. Maybe we've been spoiled with Tippa in the past, but someone with that in their arsenal would be gold.

if he wasn't scared of shadows a player is in there. His pace and ball use would be neat at half back, he could be a pressure forward, give him minutes in the midfield.

He doesn't enjoy contested ball which looks to hold him back

Finally finished looking at the game.

Setterfield. Does dominate at this level. He was good but some of the disposal was very average.

Laverde. Was reasonably good first game back.

Goldstein. Put on a bit of a clinic in the ruck.

Hayes. Solid enough defense but did miss a couple of early targets by foot.

Gerryn. Had a mare. Nothing worked for him on the day.

Davey Jnr. Bit of a nothing game. Made a couple of tackles but had limited involvement. Needs to attack the footy a bit more. He waits for it to bounce up too often and when you do that it will land in your hands maybe 1 out of 10 times. Has to prove he is willing to attack the contest a bit harder. Seems to have gone backwards in that area since his under 18 days.

Clarke. Shoulder injury early. Innocuous looking collision with a team mate.

Unwin. Quiet day. Struggled to get into the play.

Visentini. Got a lucky goal out the back but he had no real impact. Poor game.

Johnson. Finds the ball and uses it pretty well but would need to defend better if he is going to play AFL at half back. Had a couple of poor one on one losses and was also a bit loose as far as finding a man when needed. Has something to work with.

Nguyen. Average today. For a small defender he was pretty loose.

Day-Wicks. Looked okay. Found a bit of the footy. Involved in a few scoring chains. Should see some improvement as the season goes on.

hard task master old mate

Nguyen has something, I dont lnow what it is.. yet

Hayes I can see why he is behind everyone else

Agree on Davey

Think the VFL contingent are building nicely, albeit young. McKay, Eckersley, O'Neil, Hately, Hoare

ADJ the big take away for mine
I am old and grumpy.
I think Nguyen lacks talent and poise.
At under 18s he had speed on everyone but he has not got that at the next level.
He has a go but a fair way off it for mine.

Did you watch the same game?
Yes.
Compare him to Riley bice who is in his first year and 5 years older albeit.
Bice is a better kick, has far more natural ability, much better in the air and has physical size more suited to afl.
He is a great kid and gives it a red hot go but I don’t think he is good enough.
Sorry

I actually think Jayden is ahead of Adam Sweid imho
No
Jayden is faster but does not possess a trait for mine.
Sweid’s running patterns were elite today for a player who has played 2 games in a year.

Jayden's decision making is better and has better speed. Sweid possess' more power and without being at the ground, will agree with running patterns

I guess we will see how both develop.
Please note I really like Jayden. I have watched him as a kid at Abers and in rep footy.

all good mate, one of the few who actually gets out and watches these U18's, hopefully I can start to join the more educated discussions

I do like Jayden as well, think he could be our Caleb Daniel (type)

No need to apologise. I appreciate the thoughts and discussion. I only saw some of the game on TV, but will watch closely in the coming weeks. As Nguyen is Cat B he will take some time, so hopefully he can show some improvement this year.

Davey is a winger for mine. I don’t think he will make it as a small forward, but I’d like to see what he can do if built up to play wing or potentially half back.

Smart user of the footy and could give us some drive.

Needs to work on his strength further.

I had thought the knock on him was the defensive running.
