Hi, in a discussion the other day we were trying to think of Eagles players who have been delisted, traded etc who have gone on to be good players at other clubs. Obviously Judd springs to mind but the Eagles had little choice with that one.

Can anyone think of players who we have let go who have proved our recruiters wrong? By and large I think they've got a pretty good record in analysing who is and isn't a top player.

So, for example, I was dirty when Mitchell White was let go but he didn't go on due to injury. Kasey Green and Edwards at NM. Johnson at Melbourne. Etc.

Help me out on this please.

Cheers,
Grahame

Ah yes indeed a couple of names out of the multitude.

Gehrig ... yes ... I think he did his 'apprenticeship' with us and got some consistency after leaving. I wonder if he was let go as his attitude was suspect - something which may have been a 'culture' problem at the Saints at the time. And something that may have prevented them getting the best from their list.

Ball probably didn't get better after leaving. But he got a premiership so it's hard to argue with that.

Any others?

Gherig & Ball as EaglesRock pointed out, but Jaxon Crabb did go onto dominate the WAFL after being delisted.

Dean Laidley is one.

Guys that did ok elsewhere, in varying degrees, include:

Bond, Lyle, Bennett, Ball, Burton, Clape, Connell, Schofield, Heatley, Hall, Gehrig, Gastev, Zanotti, Walker, Watters ......

Whoever mentioned Mitch Morton .... Mitch was dropped last week ... still and in/out inconsistent effort guy, who plays for himself but has some ability.

Craig Turley as well.
Whenever anyone mentions Turley, one things springs immediately to my mind.

Not that he was runner-up in the Brownlow in 1991, but that during that year he was mentioned in a post-match injury report as having a "torn scrotum".

I shit you not.

I remember that game - it was actually in 1992 and came courtesy of Dean Wallis (who else?) - the game where we pumped Essendon at the MCG at Suma kicked 11.8 for the day.

At the time, it lead to much discussion of Hayden Bunton Jnr's effort in a WAFL game for Swans in the 60's when he had his scrotum torn open by boot spriggs (in those days I believe steel spriggs were the norm) and had them stitched up at half time and lead his team to a win with over 30 possessions!! Now thats tough.

Turls had his (very) active social life to consider and instead took some time to let them heal.

Geez, I was thinking Brendan Fewster. :D

But seriously, my picks would be Gastev, Zannotti and that bullocking EP ruckman, went to Collingwood and Brisbane, I think?

Alex Ischenko? Wasnt it NM rather than the Pies?

Yep, you got him in one, big Alex. And Matthew Burton would have to be the other, got a premiership medallion, Norths were very happy to have him.

Daniel Metropolis, moved and I believe made himself a financial burden on the purple wearers for a few years, well done Daniel - in my opinion you did great things after you left.

Well, if we want to go down that path.....

Tony Godden, 13 games over 3 years for the Eagles then picked up by Freo as an uncontracted player. We received David Wirrpanda as compensation - huge effort from Tony who managed only 11 games over 3 years for the Purple people eaters!

He truly achieved post Eagles football greatness when Wirra reached 200 games! :D
