What are your expectations of the pies in 09 ?

What ladder position would you consider as acceptable, and not a failure ?

We have now had 3 years of excellent recruiting.

In essence we have rebuilt while still maintaining a position in the 8.

Now comes the pay off.
Top 4 this year (PF minimum)
Flag in 2010, or with an ounce of luck, it could be this year

Yeah, i think everyone would be hoping that next year is the year of the pie, it has been a long 18 years so far, and hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer until the silverware comes to lexus centre

My expectations are less about ladder position, but more about the progress made by certain members of our list. I reckon if by years end we've shown enough improvement, and look dangerous enough to have a tilt at the flag in the next 3-4 years, i'll be happy. I'm optimistic about our list, but i do expect a somewhat up and down season, with some really great exciting wins, and some puzzling losses. But if we see the greater emergence of guys like Dawes, Reid, Wood, McCarthy, Weillingham, Brown .etc, it's going to be an enjoyable and worthwhile year overall, imo.

Top 4.

I think if we start the season better then we did last year, think we had a 4-5 start, we are more then ready to finish in the top 4.

And once in the top 4, form and injuries will determine how far we go.

With a fully fit team in September, even if we just scrape into the 4, I see no reason why we cant be a realistic premiership contender, and stay up there for a few years to come.

I agree.

I don't expect anything different from last season, except the continued development of our young list.

If we get hit by injuries: 8 - 12

If we don't: 6 - 10

I expect them to make the eight and would be disappointed if they couldn't win at least one final.

I rate the talent on the list at the moment, and I'm very optimistic about our chances of being a contender over the next few years, but still reckon we're a couple of years off. 2011 and onwards is when I expect the current list to start peaking, though the door could be ajar as early as next year.

In the meantime we have a very young team and need to keep pumping games into them.

Finals at the minimum. As long as we keep developing and progressing, I'll be happy as it will set us up for a big run in the next five years.

We need guys like Cook and Stanley to take the spot of guys like Lockyer and Obree if we are to move ahead. As great as they have been if they play close to every game then we have no pushing to take their spot and we are going nowhere. They have been there long enough(cook&Stanley) to be taking the next step. I don't care how they go in the VFL they need to show it in the AFL. I thought cook was ok in games last year but he needs to come on more to show he belongs the same with Stanley.

I'm happy aslong as we keep improving and I'm expecting us to make the 4.
I agree Top 4 does not have to be a Flag(Which would be lovely) but just to show we can play with the Big Boys of the AFL

Minimal injuries. Maximum experience.
Top 4 and have big dip at a GF spot.

With the list and finals experience Top 4 and with some help or luck maybe even a premiership
2010 is our first premiership "Window" but 09 could be

i believe at our very best..no injuries, consistancy ect...we are a top 4 side
but frankly i believe we will finish on the tail end of the top eight between 5-8 only because its an adjustment period for us with an even greater lack of experience than in 08 and with alot of young players in the group
i stand by the belief that our premiership year will be 2010

I've said it before, then taken it back, but now I'll say it again. Unless some unexpected holes get revealed in the group, for example, the forwards get shown to need a couple of more years to develop (as logically they ought), or we get more than a few injuries in either the midfield or the backs, I think we can win it. It remains to be seen how Hawthorn manages this year's expectations, and I suspect that Geelong will try very hard to come back again, but the window is at least ajar for us. If we can get to September without injuries we're definitely a chance.

If we don't drop silly games like we did last year then we are a top 4 side for sure. :thumbsu: And anyone that's in the top 4 has a serious chance in taking home the silverware.

haha its been a long 40 years for us Sainters

you guys will be top 4

i hope we make top 4.

Wood
Mcarthy
Beams
Sidebottom
Dawes
Reid
Wellingham

we need a few of those to step up, i think Mcarthy will step up, Wellingham, Dawes, Reid and Woody will arrive, if we can get beamer or tinass to make an impact on ball we are primed to be the youngest side to ever finish top4 and have a serious crack at the flag.

i think that will drive blokes like

Didak
Swan
Rocca
Fraser
Lockyer
Johnson
Cloke
Thomas
Browny-thanks Reiwoldt, rambo is now a driven machine :thumbsu:
Pendles
Harry
Shaw
Presti
Maxy
Davis
Rusling
Medhurst

thats just about our entire list, but the above older blokes know that they can write history this year.

its not about playing finals in this group anymore, its about winning a premiership.

To be a threat in 09 we dont need Cook and Stanley.

Sure it would be great if they did come on but it aint the end of the world if they dont.

Lockyer is a valuable leader out on the field, and is one of our best users of the ball by foot.....if he is in good form in 09 and keeps a kid from getting games it bodes well.

Same with O'Bree if he is winning the pill at the bottom of the packs and gets the ball moving forward we are off to a good start.

The pies can gain tremendous improvement from our senior players.

If Presti can get on the park we will be much better off compared to 08.
If Rocca can get on the park we will be much better off compared to 08.
If B.Johnson gets his 06 form back we will be much better off compared to 08.
Full seasons from Heater and Dids with them having a point to prove will be a big benefit too in comparison to 08.
Josh having a year with no injury, although dont see it happening, will be much better off compared to 08.

And then the hopeful continual improvement from our already very promising youngsters like Brown, Thomas, Clarke etc

Pies should do better in 09 than they did in 08. In 08 we won a final, so that would be the minimum again!

I reckon you guys will win it, with so many guys on a mission,

Hey mate, anyone that is talking up Collingwood will be shot down on the main board, and I have to admit, you've got courage, but its a shame that thread was destroyed without any real constructive comments. So I'd like you to start a thread on the Magpie board with your reasons because I'm intrigued to know why you really think Collingwood can win the flag in '09. Its very rare to see opposition supporters rating us this highly, so if you get a chance, go for it, I'd love to hear you out and respond without nitwits ruining the thread.
