I know its abit early but what the heck..

Every year trade week comes around i get extremely excited and am always left abit gutted when friday arvo comes and we have done very little in improving our list and overall depth.

This year im expecting for us to make a run at a key forward and obviously a ruckman. I dont see us looking to trade for a big backmen as warnock, garland and martin all look the goods so far. However we could use a smallish backmen that could take the crumbing forwards as whelan and bell dont cut it for me.

It would also be nice to get a lower class midfielder at another club that would walk straight into our best 22.

What are you guys expecting us to do in trade week?

Bruce and Green on the market for me. Basically anyone 26 or over who can net us a draft pick should be gone. I don't care who they are.

yeah, as HBF said you'd be pretty dumb to go for players...better to stock up on draft picks.

perhaps some senior players may get traded though.

Have by very good authority that unless green gets a 3 yeara signed by the end of next week he will demand a trade.

I'd be looking at trading him anyway... Skillful, running wing/HBF who is decent above his head could attract interest from a lot of clubs. Looking particularly at Carlton, Essendon and Collingwood. Worth shopping him around.

I wouldn't expect to be "buying" anything on the market. If anything, you'd be looking at getting another 1-2 top 25 picks.

I'll probably get carded for saying this, but Robertson won't be playing in your next flag, so why not shop him around? He'd have some value and would attract interest from a few clubs - Port, Adelaide, Carlton, just to name a few.

True but I think we need to keep both Bruce and Green, we can't just go round trading all our experience away or else we will be stuck with a bunch of kids.

This is also true but I don't think we will be able to accomplish this.

You won't be carded because it is a reasonable suggestion, the problem is whether he'll be there for the next flag or not we need Robbo down there in the forward 50 as another target. This would give Watts (assuming we draft him) some time to develop an AFL build.

Why would you get carded?

We aint stupid, we can see it too. I doubt he has any value anyway.

the problem being that Robbos trade value won't be very high given his injury and speculation that he may not get back to afl level

We wouldn't get much for Robbo IMO.

Trading for picks would be great. I'd definitely trade Bruce for a 1st/high 2nd rounder and Green for a 1st rounder.

Ricky 15, I disagree where you say Whelan doesn't cut it as a small defender. Do you watch the guy play? He's one of the better back pockets in the comp, he is just always injured unfortunately.

Lets be honest, totally honest, we need young picks now. We are in a terrible position witht the Gold Cost team coming in i.e. draft picks gone. We must trade hard for picks. Trade Green, Bruce, Wheatley, Whelan etc and get picks. Unfortunately its a hard line- all these players have been great servants of the club but unless we get draft picks his year we will be down for a long time. Have a look at Hawthorn and Carlton, they went to the bottom for 3-4 years, we have been there 1-2. We need quality young players and we need them now. We must trade hard for picks. Bruce & Green for a top 10 pick, wheatley & Wheland for top 25 pick, etc. We must act. At the end of the day the club is bigger than the individual.

No way any club would give up their 1st round pick especially in a draft like this, i'd be aiming to trade Green for a 2nd rounder

people are kidding themselves if they think we will get a first round pick for green or bruce. the best we will do is a pick somewhere between 30-40. It's a very deep draft and with CG17 coming in clubs will be hanging on. To me that is not worth doing the deal. Keep them both or maybe involve them in player to player swaps.

People need to understand that getting a team full of young kids isn't going to win you a Premiership. Experience is just as important as youth, without the experienced players in the team the young kids will just end up getting slaughtered.

Players such as Green and Bruce are the ones that will need to pass on their leadership skills and experience to players like Jones and McLean, who then in turn can pass on what they've learnt to players like Grimes and Morton, etc.

Youth on it's own doesn't equal a Premiership, understand that before you go offering every experienced player on our list.

people are forgetting that players like green and bruce could make all the difference to a team in their premiership window like hawthorn. So for the hawks to give away a first round draft pick for a premiership is not at all anything

I love how opposition supporters are coming here thinking they'll get carded if they bag our players.

We'd all be long gone if that was the case, join in fellas.

Trade 'em all.

Unfortunately i felt we should of traded Robbo at the end of 2007, especially when he was demanding a 3 year deal i was happy to let him go. But now with injury in his 30's i wudnt see any club taking a risk on him.

Perosnally i dnt think Melbourne will do to much there has been recent talk of bell being traded back to SA. They will throw in white and carroll and see any interests but i can't see any.

I would like to see:
If we can get good picks for green and/or bruce (10-20) being very optimsitic there i would be happy to trade, but anything over 25 would not be worth it. I would be happy to trade wheatley for 30-35.

we're keeping Mcdonald. Bruce really hasn't shown much leadership apart from winning the odd coin toss and he really isn't the player we need him to be, i can see him going for a pick between 20-25 in a three way deal
