Gold in itself has no value whatsoever. It can't be really used for anything practical. Yet, it is THE most precious mineral to man, because they don't know why, it's just a traditional thing, passed down from eon to eon thru history.

This opens up the possibility of longer lasting hip replacement joints for example. Crap load of other uses, but that's one I saw in the last week.
