The preview for F1 2011 is out, as well as some screenshots. Not sure if it's just me and they're early builds, but the graphics don't look as good.

F1 2011's full tagline now reads Be the Driver, Live the Life, Go Compete - and that appendage covers much of F1 2011's new ground. Multiplayer racing is now a much more serious concern, and for the first time (and thanks in no small part to the work of the DiRT 3 team) split-screen is an option, as is co-operative team play.
Online racing will also be served by a more robust hub, acknowledging the dedicated following that F1 2010's multiplayer maintains to this day. It's here that one of F1 2011's additions will be felt the strongest, and where it will certainly prove controversial.

Until, that is, the safety car intervened. It's another feature that the die-hards have been screaming for, and it's one that Codemasters Birmingham is paying serious attention to.

A large part of that comes from the tyres, and F1 2011 will be working hard to simulate the behaviour of the Pirellis that have so successfully mixed up this year's racing. Tyre degradation will now play a much bigger part, and over the course of a weekend you'll learn to covet those sets of softs, and learn when's the best time to extract the two laps of perfect grip that they offer.

Online improved too.

As well as this, online play now supports a full grid of 24 cars. The game can only support 16 players, however, so the remaining eight cars will be driven by AI drivers.

Safety Car addition is of most interest to me.

I see what you mean about poorer graphics, but i'll give it the benifit of the doubt seeing it's early on.

Likely dialed back the graphics to add more things and cars.

Online was ruined by ****wits trying to start huge crashes. Not really a way to fix that unfortunately... :(, but safety car will help.

Will probably still buy though as I loved the career mode starting as a lower team and working my way up to Red Bull.

Online can be a pain into the first corner. Unless you're racing against decent people it's a 50/50 chance if you'll get through the first corner without getting rammed.

Online was great on F1 2010, should hop back on soon.

The screenshots of F1 2010 look nothing like the real game so the ones you posted OzBomber will probably look nothing like the game again.

Not too sure if I'll buy this as FIFA 11, NBA 2K11 and MW3 all come out a few months after it.

and people racing with driver assists on....

surely, at the very least you can do your own braking!
I use a few assists, but braking assist makes you so slow. Can't see why anyone would use it.

And here's a preview from a guy that's played it.

This game is more unforgiving too. Start losing control of the car, you really must have some skill and reactions to wrestle it back. No longer will smacking the brakes save you! The sound effects when you are skidding are so realistic – no longer just tyre squeal, but you can hear each individual tyre lockup. And the crashes, ooo there will be debris EVERYWHERE. FV, you will love it. Saw some awesome moments of cars going up in the air. Bits of wings fall off, parts of the nose on its own – a massive upgrade.

and the best news for online.

There is a full XP system in place for online races now, where if you drive a HRT, you are not expected to win. But do better than expected, and you will get bonus XP. Hit another car, you will lose XP. It rewards sensible, but fast drivers who outperform what the car ought to do.

One area that took my by surprise was the level of tactics you can now do in the cockpit. For example, you can now use different fuel mixtures. So underfill your car before the race, you will have to do a stint with lean fuel. Got some to burn up or really want to gain track position? Give it more juice. And it does make a difference. This, with KERS and DRS (fully manual btw, you control these entirely!), means we will be a lot busier at the wheel now beyond racing.

-If they're going to fix the the "brake to stop slipping" trick - Yes, this has gone. The moment you start losing the car, you really must have fantastic reactions to recover.
-improved driving model? - Without a doubt. New suspension system for each wheel makes a monumental difference to how the car feels. You now feel more connected to the track, brakes lock up realistically, mistakes you make causing you to spin actually feel realistic.

-engineer being more dynamic? - Yes. Although I didn’t hear this, apparently the engineer will actually inform you of details like “what lap times you need to do to catch the guy in front”. He has also lost his annoying accent and as a whole is a lot more professional. It appears a lot of work has gone into it. Pit engineer is also present in online races.

1)Can you comment on how the spectator feature will function online? For example, can you hop into a lobby and start spectating from the get-go? Or do you have to participate in the race first and then if you wreck or quit, you can spectate? – as stated above, yes you can. No need to wait around now.

Looking forward to jumping on this with the wheel i have now :thumbsu:
Had some good BF sessions with the last one.

Celebrations are awesome.

The HUD seems a lot more useful now, hated driving in 2010 with no idea what the fastest lap was, what strategies other drivers were doing etc.

KERS and DRS will be hard, I only have 2 buttons on my Wheel.
