This from Howard.

We love mods, so we are 100 percent committed to [offering mods] in 76 as well,” Todd Howard said in a conversation with Geoff Keighley. “We will not being able to do that at launch, though. Our goal for launch — this is really new for us — is to have a well-running, robust service, and then some period later, we’re currently still designing what that service looks like, you’ll be able to have your own private world, and be able to mod it and do all of that.”

By mods he means loot crate style DLC add ons that are available on their Creation Club that you can use Beth Bucks for.

So is it no NPCs or no people? Because they could have robot NPCs and mutant NPCs.

Interesting take in the death of subtlety in the series:

Have to agree, particularly with the stuff once said ironically now intended at face value.

You see that absolutely everywhere in life now though.

Damn sarcasm. We didn’t understand its true power and we used it so much in the wrong forums with the wrong audiences that it ultimately became meaningless and consumed in the very opposite way it was intended.

Now that is truly irony.
Against my better judgement I've read the comments on that piece and lol...

People apparently aren't allowed to be critical. "It's just a game, bozo. Why don't you lighten up? Why are you reading too much into it?"

Why not just play a shooter if that's what you want. Surely it's not a bad take to wish the Fallout series aspire to its own high standards of writing.

Honestly seems like the are going the WoW model of being able to pvp flag yourself or potentially having pve and pvp specific zones, not sure how that will affect your buildings though.

I can't wait to get involved in the Beta test
Seems like they have NFI.

From the bit I've watched......

  • VATS is there, works in real time
  • NPCs are replaced by real people, also get quests through holotapes, robots, and terminals.
  • Still working on how players interact with each other, there will be a way to not engage in firefights with other players
  • When you log off your "camp" goes with you
  • Nukes only damage your buildings, you can repair them.

Got a feeling this is going down the WoW path.

I loved Warcraft until it moved to World of Warcraft. I hope my love of Fallout doesn't go the same way

People who are actually buying the game - what edition are you planning on getting? I got the CEs for 3, NV and 4, but this one is $300 and will probably be a cheaply made helmet (the other stuff is cool tho) that I’ll never use. Tricentennial edition just seems like an extra $30 for cosmetics?

If I do end up buying it I will just get the standard edition. The only time I get any other is if a game has been out for a while and they start selling the games with add-ons or GOTY editions.

Stolen from /r/f076 on Reddit, points are based off this video......

1) Ghouls known as the “Scorched” are “raiders”

2) Way more creatures and insects than previous fallout games. More radiation so crazier mutant creatures

3) Map has multiple biomes inspired by real life locations

4) Crafting is very important and and resources can be acquired from ore, plants, and creatures/ghouls, etc

5) New feature called “mutation”. More rads can give you positive and negative traits, can be cured

6)Items degrade (can be repaired) and food can rot.

7) Game has “perk cards” which give players certain perks and can be switched out

8) Crafting items require recipes which can be found in world or traded from other players

9) Might have the ability to open a vendor shop for trading with other players. Not confirmed yet

10) 24 players per server (might be 32?). Players can be seen on the map

11) Team (co-op) limit is 4 players

12) There will be a team deathmatch mode? No details yet

13) “End game” right now is getting nuclear codes which radiates an area. This radiated area will have end game loot which includes legendary items but will also have strong monsters/enemies.. These legendary items have tiers

14) There will be microtransactions for in-game cosmetics only. Can also be obtained through gameplay. This will be used to support free dlc/content updates and for the dedicated servers

Edit 1) As /u/Constantinesh mentioned, there can be 12 v 12 ( not deathmatch) so teams can be bigger or smaller

Edit 2) I forgot to mention that perk cards can be chosen as a player levels up. A player will be limited to a certain amount of perk cards (amount not confirmed yet). Perk cards can be shared among your party so players can get access to perks they haven't unlocked yet

Edit 3) As /u/giulianosse mentioned, the "mutation" feature can be visual so may see ghoulification of players?

Not a fan of being able to see others on the map, I'd rather the surprise meet up or the sneaky hunt.

If online players are replacing NPCs then it kind of has to happen.

EDIT: Given everyone technically comes out of the same Vault, I guess they'll tie in that Pipboys are linked or something into the story/intro

Why? NPCs don't show up on the match in the other games.

NPCs are generally confined to certain areas, and can't freely roam a massive map. You can also generally select them as waypoints so you can go straight to them.

Not sure what that has to do with other players showing up on the map.

Because you rely on other players being quest/mission waypoints, instead of just "shit that gets in your way"

Where does it say that? All I've seen is robots and holotapes and the like are missions, the other players are just other players.

In the video I posted above

NPCs are replaced by real people, also get quests through holotapes, robots, and terminals.

I think that is two separate comments, not sure how I as a player can give a quest to another person.

That's the bit they are working out at the moment. I don't know, maybe I'm interpreting it wrong, watch that gameplay video and see what Todd has to say about it but I read it as player to player interactions being a regular part of the game.

Just did a bit more research, you've definitely interpreted it wrong.
