I have a spare beta code for Xbox. The code is for your Bethesda account, who then send you the code for Xbox. Who wants it?

why not just wait for release? it's not like its far off....
True but some want to play the beta, if they dislike the beta they won't buy the full game and give up the preorder fee.

EB have gone live playing the beta on their FB page if anyone else is stuck at work and can take a peak. I only watched for about 5 minutes just as they were leaving the vault so didn’t get to really see what it would be like without NPCs. They handed the first quest into a butler bot and there were plenty of players but this is probably everyone had just started at the same time and everyone was running around the same area.

Fallout 76 is great. There are still some NPC's, just not human. Lots of holotapes and notes. I'm level 7. Feels like a Fallout game, funny that.

This is good.

what are the quests like?

Didn't get to do a heap in my 4 hours but they mostly felt familiar. I don't think there are any spoilers in what I post below but if you don't want to know some early "story" stuff, stop here.

Everything felt very Fallout. I said earlier there are a lot of Holotapes but these are also very long. So, there's still a ton of voice acting. The first quest coming out of the vault is to find the overseer. It reminded me a bit of Fallout 3's main quest, tracking your Dad. Where you were always a bit behind. But the holotapes the Overseer left were like story beats, guiding you to your next destination. I will say as well that in the first holotape, the overseer tells you straight away that she's trying to stop the Nukes from triggering again. For those worried about Bethesda's understanding of the lore.

I joined a faction, The Responders, I'm pretty sure they were called. This was handled by objectives given through bots and terminals and actually reminded me of Moira's quests from Megaton. Doing water sampling, cooking meat. Then after you're accepted into the faction I was given a main mission from a distress message but I didn't have time for that. They did have a robot NPC that you could trade with though.

There were lots of event quests that popped up over the map, that were group or solo quests for anyone nearby. They were very similar to Fallout 4's radiant quests. Like defend a factory from waves of Scorched attacks. Defeat some robots that were attacking humans then reprogram them in a console. Even an escort mission for a Mr Handy.

My main takeaway from the short play, is that the world is beautiful! It was really impressive.

The game was pretty damn smooth too. There was some occasional frame drop and there seemed to be some server lag when dealing with the NPC trader.

I think it will take a little while to get used to the different systems and what you need to prioritise. But that's all MMO's. The survival was very light but it's really hard to tell how important base building is going to be. I did get over encumbered a few times, as always in Bethesda games, but I like the changes they made there. I think having a CAMP built is going to be needed for inventory management and fast travelling.

VATS is still useful.

Other players were passive but someone did shoot at me. It basically just did some chip damage. PVP is optional and I don't know if griefing will be any kind of issue.

Ask me anything you like. I only intended to play for an hour or two but ended up playing from 10am on the dot until 2:05pm when they closed the servers. I like it. I want to play more.

Great to hear the positive feedback, watch some streaming and must agree it looked good.
With out the direct contact with human npc do you think it will have lasting drive after 20-30 hours of holotapes and voice recordings ?

For me, sure. I like exploring and the world looks great and runs smooth. Too hard to say how long it'll hook for without seeing the late game meta's and progress loops. I think with exploration, quests and crafting, I'll go over 50 hours easily. After that it depends on the content, which I can't comment on.

Cheers, did you have the chance to craft some weapons?

Yeah, I did. It's near identical to Fallout 4. I'm assuming there's a lot more variety and mods, based on what I saw but I only had access to pipe stuff, mostly.

With crafting there's a ton of stuff you can craft off the bat but I also found about a dozen documents to learn a new thing to craft. Like, several recipes, some furniture and building pieces and there may be schematics too. Also some crafting is locked off by level requirements from what I saw, so possibly there will also be perk requirements like in 4.
