Multiplat Far Cry 3

Finished it last night. Awesome gameplay but geez, let down badly by an ordinary story and chronically under-used Vaas. Terrible ending to boot.

And what was with the deaths of main enemies? Vass - dream sequence. Buck and Hoyt - magically transported to another dimension or something?? What happened to Hoyt's guards that were present at the poker game? I guess you could write it off as artistic/dramatic license and fitting in with the whole insanity theme, but for mine its just exceptionally lazy game design

I personally like this idea, bit different but would have been heaps better than that Citra/warrior/mysticism crap -> http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/12/a-simple-way-to-fix-far-cry-3s-dumb-story/

That article hits exactly on my thoughts.

Vaas should have been the protagonist in this game. I hold out hope of maybe having a prequel type DLC that explains how Vaas well became who he was in the game.

That article's solution was worse than what we were given

The whole it's just a dream shtick wouldn't work, I'd hate to play through half a game to find out it was simply a dream.

That's a story telling dynamic I was told was a cop out when I was about 10 years old.

They miss a bunch of key points, the game is a guys development into insanity. You have it, even the wacky flamethrower mission has it's purpose. Because it is one of the first times Jason is not only enjoying the killing, but relishing in the destruction of it all.

The boss battles were an interesting aesthetic, in Jason's rage filled mind that's all he could see. For the Hoyt scenario I feel like they were aiming for a you blacked out and killed everyone in the room thing. But it wasn't perfectly handled.

In the overall scheme of a videogame storyline, it was pretty decent. The endings were fine, you had your reasonings to choose either ending and they gave enough clues to what Citra would do if you sided with her anyway. My overall distrust of her and the fact that the American's represented the last bastion of Jason's humanity was why I chose the ending I did. I was satisfied with the result.

I get what you mean about the 'it was all a dream' thing being a bit of a copout, but I could have lived with it here - especially if it was only for half the game. If they were to go this route they could play it even safer and have it comprise, say, only the first 1/4 or 3rd of the game. I'll admit it would be a ballsy move, can't think of another game that has pulled a fight club-esque bait and switch like that.

I get the whole 'descent into insanity' storyline, but even that was badly handled. If thats what they were going for, focus on that rather than all the Citra/mysticism stuff. Have actual missions (not dream sequences) that play into the protagonist loosing his mind and build it up slowly. I'd say that would fit the story much better than 3 boss fights that just dip straight to that territory. The sequences that are in the game as it stands currently that touch on it, for me, basically amount to a few bad acid trips.

Yep just my personal opinion but even for a videogame, thought the storyline was crap. 'Johnny football hero gets a few tatts and becomes warrior king of the natives in about 6 days' pretty much sums it up.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by the likes of Uncharted but reckon you're entitled to expect a bit more from a videogame these days.

The fact that I still had a blast playing it speaks volumes about gameplay mechanics, superb in that area. Just a shame it didn't have a story to match, plus a classic villain who felt under utilised - feels like a wasted opportunity. This game could have been one of the all time greats.

6 days?

Felt like the timeline was months

Really? Fair enough if thats how you saw it. Yeah probably not 6 days, but was just thinking how many times it got dark during the game, I reckon it couldn't have been more than 15. Maybe because I just did the main missions, radio towers and outposts. Didn't touch relics, lost letters or the story missions (blue).

Just started playing this again and finished the flame thrower mission, was awesome. Really enjoying this game a lot more now than when i first stared playing it.

Can anyone tell me where the **** to find normal, run of the mill pigs? They seem to be all boars. I need more wallet. And other shit.

I am loving this game though. Bought it just because of this thread and have pumped quite a few hours in it now! Nothing quite like stalking through a jungle, hearing a hiss or a growl and shitting myself not knowing what or where it is!

Pigs are usually around small villages.

Just look on your map.

Definitely get stuck in to the hunting early, at least til you can carry 3 guns, more ammo and more loot. Upgrading all the kit bags and your health bars makes the game a lot more enjoyable rather than running out of ammo after killing 2 dudes and then dying from falling off a 1ft high rock.

Just finished this, really fun game.

Chose the bad ending, I couldn't stay Liza and was kind of hoping I'd just be able to bang Citra whenever I wanted, but no she had to ruin it and kill me so I don't think I'll play this anymore, maybe just to finish liberating the outposts but who can be ****ed really.

It's nowhere near as fun doing free roam when the missions have ended. Should I try Far Cry 2, any good?

Can't finish this because of the stupid camera glitch. ARGH!!!!!!!!!!

That sucks, have heard of a few people having this issue. In cases like that it pretty much amounts to a broken game, I'd be seeking a refund from wherever you bought it.

Speaking of bugs, is anyone having problems connecting in multiplayer? It searches lobbies then attempts to connect but just gets stuck in a loading screen, leaving no option but to quit back to the XMB menu and reload the game. Tried for about an hour to get a game last night and this happened 9 times in a row. It's regularly happened before as well but never as bad as last night, probably an average of about 2 or 3 frozen loading screens/quits/restarts before managing to connect.

Been told on the ubi forums this issue has started/got worse since the most recent patch. I wouldn't know coz I never had a crack at the multiplayer prior to the patch.

I seem to be able to only play one game then it freezes on the loading screen. Happens everytime.
