Fifa 09

a question on online gaming. ive tried it playing nba live 08. got fed up cause of the lag and general jerkiness - a function of my wireless connection i would believe.

is it best to just buy an ethernet cable and play through it?

I use a wireless connection, and whilst the lag frustrates me on certain games, it's extremely minimal in FIFA 09.

So did you get the dodgy penalty? Big clubs and their luck eh, United never get any. :p

I did :p

Right on the stroke of half time, I assumed he just blew for half time but then I saw all of the Man Utd players surround the referee (unusual eh? ;)) and I had a penalty somehow.

Oh, and Cristiano Ronaldo dives in the game too. Pretty realistic.

It seems a lot more unforgiving in terms of positioning and possession, crosses are a lot smoother and you can actually score headers from corners now.

in 08 i scored a few times from corners (and a scissor kick with ronaldo - real madrid one). however most headers went over the bar or to the keeper!

so fifa has improved its playability in this way? nice!

hmm, still might invest in a bloody long ethernet cable still. just more reliable i think

Picked the game up from JB Hi Fi (Lonsdale Street, Melbourne) yesterday evening and it is an absolute corker! I have bought each FIFA for the last three or four years and either returned it or traded them after a few weeks. This one however looks like a keeper! I have only played it for 2-3 hours before forcing myself away from the TV or I would never have got up for work!

I won't write a review, but I will post some of the key things I have noticed:

- Melbourne is statistically the best team in the A-League :) (a big tick for accuracy)
- Matthew Kemp is statistically the worst player in Melbourne's starting XI (again, points for accuracy)
- Tottenham is rated four and a half stars (WTF?!?!) - can live updates edit a team's overall competance and rating?
- Stadiums have never looked better!!
- Australia's default "home" stadium vaguely looks like ANZ Stadium or even the Telstra Dome with the roof open
- It's amazing to think how we have played this game in the past without visible refs of linesmen - great addition
- Quicker players are actually able to outsprint sluggish defenders
- It's not as easy to score from crosses
- In the dying minutes of sudden death matches, the opposition keeper comes up the field for set pieces (amazing!!!!!)
- CPU makes intelligent substitution choices (ie. brings on strikers if chasing the game, defender if holding a lead)
- Referee often plays advantage and gives a yellow card for the tackle at the NEXT stoppage!! (as opposed to getting away with a bad tackle)
- Sadly it's still near impossible to score from free kicks
- Fatigue effect is still not severe enough - players can sprint for much of the game and be at about 40-45% capacity toward the end
- "Kids" by MGMT is in the soundtrack :)

I'm sure this was in Fifa08

Yeah correct mate, think its been in 07 aswell.

I have to agree with the write up that was posted before, often I felt the previous versions got to reptitive and boring like you could score outside the box with ease. This is the first time I can play online so im happy about that, there is also plenty of league's to play and the Adidas live thing looks alright to.

I have 08. Is it worth forking out for? Or should I just keep 08?

got it on ps2, not too much difference but for 40 bucks was definitely worth the upgrade.. obviously they put all their attention into the 360 and Ps3 version (and rightfully so) but yea.. enjoying it so far

seriously contemplating buying a 360 or ps3 and getting it.. see how we go :D

It's really not worth playing new EA Sports games on anything but the 360 or PS3. They simply don't care about the PS2 or PC any more. The PC is getting a next-gen FIFA game but that's the only exception so far. I wish I could say the same for NHL :(

A 360 shouldn't set you back too far these days! :thumbsu:

Is it a lot more different from the '07 version of Fifa on the PS2?

oh shit yea.. last year there was heaps of change.. not much dif between 08 and 09 though.. i'm the type who loves having up to date rosters and new kits and all the new kids on the game and that.. so for that alone it was worth the 40 bucks IMO.. the gameplay is a little bit more realistic IMO

I'm getting this game on Saturday 100%. Can't wait to see the new gameplay.

Actually the ps2 entries are usually the 'most complete' with more options than all of the other versions (360, ps3, pc etc). This has been the case for the EA Sports series (Madden & Fifa in particular), since the 360 has been out anyway.

From what i've read the ps2 version of fifa '09 is once again 'more complete' and has a few other extras that the other versions don't (training modes etc).
