i just did the easiest passes possible and i had to be 100% certain they would work and eventually messi made a small run and i did a through ball and first time top of the box he slid it into the corner in the 80th minute. i only had 3 shots the entire game, the other two were pathetic, cpu had 6 shots and only scored 1

they probably should've won by 3 or so goals because i still can't use this system

I withdraw the previous comment as I just saw legacy defending. I don't really play online so I don't think I really need to get used to tactical. What is the tactical defending anyway, I haven't really read up much about it.

I like the shooting. Shots stay low from far sometimes, you don't always just shoot straight at the keeper and it just misses. I missed some easy chances but I am glad it just went wide instead of kicking it right at the keeper.

Would like to know more about tactical defending and what it actually does/the advantages before I totally rule it out.

Was down 2-0 at half time to Marseille, and managed to take my Arsenal team to a 3-2 win thanks to a Fabregas hattrick. It just takes time I think.

i still can't defend properly, but that's kind of irrelevant as most of the goals are caused by the defender i'm not controlling standing still while the attacker runs away into open space.

fifa 11 i got used to after a few games, this is a whole new level

I think the trick to defending is to tackle as little as possible. The more you press O (on ps3), the more likely you are to get done.

That's how I play. I don't know the little button combos to perform the trick moves to get around defenders, so I play a Barcelona style attack.

Also, take advantage of the skilled dribbling system introduced a couple of years ago (using L2 and R2). I've found it very effective in getting past defenders. Also the precision dribbling is great for holding up play.

A lot of them are actually too tricky to be able to use in a game now that I've watched it

But there will be more video tutes and in the game book there's normally a run down.

Just have a muck around in the arena and see what works.

i've been playing games on world class, fairly low scoring until i get lazy and there is a blowout and i lose. but i just played a match in semi-pro and it finished 5-5.

Definitely seems that way. And it's not to the extent where you'd be like 'oh well it's obviously fast paced then, so that's kind of awesome' that FIFA World Cup had.

This is one of those things that the defenders are slower to react, harder to properly control (through an unintuitive system). So it creates a clumsy system more than anything overly skill based.

I'll continue to give it a go and try and get into it. But I'm really disliking the new defenders system.

not being sarcastic here, but could you recommend any other funny commentators? lajide is the only funny one i've found so far and would like to hear more. i might even make my own soon hopefully my rage commentary when playing online with a laggy connection will make people laugh


i'm getting used to the new defending system kind of. i prefer it now, its still shitty but it's a slight step up.

they basically have replaced holding down the pressure button with holding down R1 so now instead of controllong one player going after the ball carrier you have your cpu team mate jockeying the ball carrier while you can run around and block the pass, run in to rape the ball carrier or chase a running winger etc. i'm sure you have all worked this out but i just feel relieved that my anus isn't as sore after these past few winning matches

edit: also thought I'd share this decent goal with you, nothing special but i hadn't scored in ages so i was basically dripping when it hit the back of the net
