Will post in depth review later on, but I'm amazed at how much this first touch has changed the game. It's made everything better, from passing to dribbling to the types of fouls committed. I'm pleasantly surprised with that.
And the attacking AI is just brilliant, they've nailed that. So much more to talk about, I'll get to it later.

I love that the opposition AI isn't impenetrable and they are super good although that may change on legendary.

Still not sure if I'm getting full advantage of the first touch.
Scored two great goals with City. first was a Super Mario volley after a through ball over the top from Nasri was brought and down and hit on his left foot. Another was a great team move and it felt real, loved it.
Struggling somewhat defending. Do people use L2 mainly or what?
Visually very good, looks very slick and easy to navigate around. It's good they've introduced live season into the demo, a nice addition. Their technique/fluidity/movement is top notch. Made some great defensive tackles to block shots or crosses.

Warden finally let me out of the hole so I can post again.
First game I played as Arsenal v Milan, drew 0-0. I really found Giroud pretty meh, when I do my Arsenal season I decided right away I'd bring in a forward. Next game I drew 1-1 with the same teams. I have a lot of the ball, not as many shots as I wanted and finding myself struggling to score. Gave City a go and absolutely destroyed Milan. Had at least 15 shots and 60+ possession. I realize City are a lot better than Arsenal but it helped having some quality forwards. It might be the tactic as well, playing with 2 up front might suit me better. Scored 2 gems as well with Aguero and Balotelli, with some brilliant shots just going over. Last game for me was Juventus v City. Juve have a very good passing team, a bit slow, but move the ball well and defend well. Ended up drawing 0-0 but I had over 60% possession. They would probably require a striker as well if I was to play them.
Overall thoughts are that I like the first touch, but as Cruyff said, I don't feel like I am utilizing it as well as I should. This probably comes with practice of course. Defending is sensational - that's all I can say. It's damn frustrating for you sometimes but you gotta appreciate the last ditch tackles, the blocks etc. Shooting/Volleying is far better. They seem to be more accurate than just bombing it over the bar. The things I didn't like but could have just been bad luck for me was first the refereeing. I can go with some fouls being missed but I felt the AI got the fouls which I didn't ever get. Definitely felt I got manhandled quite often, then I'd win a ball that was more than fair, and the referee would be quick to blow the whistle. Could have just been some bad luck on my end, not dismissing it right away just saying what happened.
One little thing that annoyed me but nothing major, was a few times I'd have a shot, the keeper saves it, and I just leave it to go out for a corner as it starts to trickle over the line, my player would run to the ball and since he has no room to manoeuvre* (even though I wasn't controlling him/wanted the ball to go out) he just ended running it out of play on a few occasions. I guess I have to pull him back or make him stop, bit frustrating but no big deal really. I guess because it was the 90th minute 0-0 and that corner could have won me the game, made me more frustrated than usual
Overall, I am liking it more than FIFA12 already. I didn't play FIFA12 much to be honest, just felt a lot like 11. This one actually feels different to 12 in my opinion, hopefully I get around to playing this one a lot. I think I barely finished a season on the last one. Hurry up and release the game dammit.

Played a few more games today. Getting used to it more and getting in some amazing volleys and first time shots.
Defending movement is fantastic but I still feel like attacking movement is a bit dopey.
Passing seems a lot harder which is a good thing because some people just pass without much effort, but I find some of my passes go a totally different direction than I aimed at.
Oh well. I've loved some of these lobbed through balls I've put in and the sweet volleys on the end of them. Dortmund are quite fun to play as, absolutely destroyed Juventus just then.

Yeah I'm having a bit of trouble defending, playing on professional and they seem to get around my contain very easily, and if I don't contain I'm getting caught out of position.
Aguero is beast.

Pretty sure I live in Beverly Hills, just because 90210 was the only postcode I could think of.
Anyway, the game....
As I mentioned earlier, the first touch control changes more than I expected. This is largely because it has a flow on effect that does a world of good for the game. As someone else mentioned, it really manages to create that sensation that the ball is separate to the player, which FIFA was so far yet to crack. It improves dribbling, passing and shooting as a result, and makes everything have an unpredictable liveliness to it that never once has stepped over the line into being handicapping.
I also brought up the improvement in tackles and fouling it has brought about. Before, there were certain tackles and places to tackle from that were guaranteed fouls. Now a good touch - or even a poor touch - has the ability to suck a defender into a poor tackle. I often have felt like my good possession has led to rash opposition tackles, and I've won dangerous free kicks, and a couple of pennos as a result.
The feature I was most looking forward to seeing was Attacking AI, and boy does it deliver. There are two things I wanted from it, and both of those have been delivered in spades. Firstly, the positioning of midfielders during long spells of possession had to be much better, and it is. That is, when using Arsenal, I want Arteta to be continuously moving into space to command the attack, and not staying rooted to the one spot after the pass. I'm so happy with how this has been implemented, and I'm bossing possession at times as a result.
The second part of it is, obviously, those killer forward runs that were once so stagnant in old FIFA games. As HBK mentioned, methodical counter attacks can be deadly now as the intelligent forward breaks have the ability to pierce defenses. They are angled, they are well timed, and they are persistent. I couldn't have asked for any more from any of these AI improvements, I've already seen a variety of goals, some that I can't remember seeing in old FIFA games.
Defending is a ton better, but it's hard to exactly define why. Lateral contain is a lot more responsive, but at the same time is less dominant over attackers. Silva will skip past you, but you don't seem to feel as if you were completely helpless this time round. Tackling is infinitely better, both standing and sliding. I think this is probably the biggest difference for defending, in that once you set yourself in a food position, you feel like your tackle is meaty and well directed, rather than just hopefully poking out a toe like it used to be.
Passing has an excellent zip about it, but it has to be well thought out, because the first touch improvements mean being too expansive and risky could lead to strife going the other way. Shooting feels quite nice, and I like the pace on the crosses I'm getting.
The crowd sounds amazing, the best it has in any football game I've played by a long way. Although there hasn't been a lot of lines added to the commentary (although I reckon there will be more come release), they seem to have an added urgency when in dangerous positions, which really seems to add to those dramatic moments.
Presentation is outstanding, skill games look to be a magnificent addition.
I've only played about an hour, so these are all very preliminary impressions, although after this long into last year's demo, I was pretty damn worried about the game. They were worries that turned into confirmed faults in a game that I just couldn't get into. But this year.... It actually feels like EA have sat down and read every last one of my complaints and fixed them.
I can't understand people who are saying this is only a small improvement on FIFA12, or that they see no difference at all. I think it's an enormous step up.

A cool thing happened earlier also.
I tackled Podolski and it was called play on as he remained lying on the ground. The referee called a stop to the play very shortly after this and Podolski was substituted. He awarded me with a drop ball, and sportingly, I just belted it back to their keeper. Interesting to see the approach the computer will take.

Player Ratings are farked in this demo. Just got a 10/10 with Joe Hart from 0 saves (CPU didn't even have a shot), 1/1 passes completed.

also im pretty sure these arent the final ratings. iirc they're practically identical to last years'. not that ratings has really had much of an effect in my experience.

I'm really really struggling, just can't find a way to score, haven't managed one good through ball to get a player a scoring opportunity. Only chances I'm getting are coming are from crosses and I just can't finish.
EDIT - it's also much more important to use close control, you could get away without using close control and still find a way around players in 12', try to do that now and you lose possession almost immediately.

kind of. everything seems a lot more even. there's no massive advantage to pace like there was last season, and as a defender, you never really feel out of it, because put some pressure on a striker, and they can have a horrible touch and the defender can nip right in. possession is going to be paramount in this, you can't just spend the game chasing, then hope to get a couple of lofted through balls and have a one on one with goal. defenders are smart. the build up needs to be slow, concise and picking the right time to play the killer ball, otherwise you open yourself to a deadly counter. the ai will make you pay for mistakes, but this season, you can make the ai pay for their mistakes too, which is nice. im sure people will find their own way to play the game, but i won't be playing too much different to last season, defence first, then play the ball through the middle, kick it out wide sometimes and just being patient. the first touch system will take a while for everyone to get used to, and even then, you can't really predict how a player will take possession, which is pretty much how it is in real life. players stumble, come under pressure, get a pass over hit to them, there's so many variables in real life, and at least some of these have made their way into the game.
