Found a way to beat Madrid on seasons.

PSG, play Silva as CDM. He tracks back and cuts off all the through balls and is also a beast in general. Scored 6 goals from 5 games as a CDM.
 
I reckons it's top notch! Yeah you have to update squads as soon as possible (little annoying) but the game style is legit and more accurate. Love it :thumbsu:

Ok I am obviously a complete battler having not played FIFA since probably the 2008 but after busting out a shitload of games today I am still looking for my first win and just about ready to throw my controller through the TV. About 75% of games end up 1-1 draws - the rest I lose.

I can maintain possession by passing around midfield but for the life of me I can't do anything with it. The only way I can score is through balls out to the wings which are crossed to a striker in the middle of the box. I can't build up any play though the centre of the park AT ALL. On the rare occasion I do get through I just blast the ball over the bar or straight at their keeper.

Most of my goals I concede from crosses - or the computer has no problem dribbling through the centre of my backs - when I try this I either have no control or it gets tackled off me.

Any helpful hints for a complete newb?
 
Not a huge fan at the moment.
I'd never pay 90+ for it, so I'm alright with getting it for 69.
I just reckon defenders are waaaaaaaaay too good at reading the play and keeping up with players that are obviously much faster than them.
They have such amazing passing range and dribbling ability as well - I rarely sense any urgency when the AI has the ball in defence. They'll just dribble and send a long range pass through. I know it can happen, but not most of the time.
I like some of the new aspects, but at the same time it's just never really that realistic.
I wish I had the balls to buy Pro Evo - I reckon that demo was great and much more realistic.

I'm sure over time I'll grow to enjoy this more, but at the moment it's just frustrating as hell. I don't mind a challenge - as long as it realistic. Defenders just seem like super humans. Too fast, great reactions, too strong, and passing like Ozil when they just go to clear it. Will persist of course and this is just my opinion, I'm sure more seasoned veterans have far more positive reviews. It's not just a matter of me being a noob, I mean I am more of a casual player (more into FM series) but I've gotten every FIFA title for the past 10+ years.

Also - just wanted to add that defending seems to be underrated by those working at FIFA. It's not as simple as just running through a player and grabbing the ball, feel like they don't really appreciate the fact there is some art to defending. AI can move all their players whenever they want whilst we have to rely on the timing for our players sometimes. I know it's impossible to do pretty much, just irritating I guess.

No problems with when I have to defend though, I usually do it quite well but I keep getting O and square mixed up. Still adjusting to PS3 controllers as I swapped from XBOX.
 
I like career mode. Menus are easy enough to navigate around once you know what you're doing. L1 and R1 switch between the main tabs along the top. Does lag a bit during team management menu and whatnot though. Like the scouting thing although they don't come back with many results a lot of the time.

Just keep playing until you learn to score.

Eventually it will just click.

Maybe bump down the difficulty a touch. I've had everu fifa since 2009 and the 5 or 6 PES games before that and I play on Professional.
 
Really enjoying the demo version, will purchase this next pay day I reckon.

The new feel/touch of the ball took a bit of getting used to but it does seem to make gameplay feel even more realistic than '13. Shooting seems much more unique to me. In '13 it seemed that for a given pattern of play or scenario two goals would look the same, whereas in the '14 demo I'm finding that even trying to do thing the same way, they still look different.

Playing this has made me really consider buying a release date PS4 though I've perhaps missed the boat on that if pre-orders are anything to go by.

Ta - random question but do you think doing any of the training drills will help? Or better to just learn on the job in game?

just play the games mate. i had trouble scoring in the beginning of my career. i was 15th after 8 games, i kept playing through on the same difficulty and now i am 5th with 14 games to go 14pts adrift of liverpool on top

yeah i hear ya. scoring is hard, real hard. But I like the challange.

What difficulty are you blokes playing on?

Like the poster up there ^^ I haven't played since probably 08 or 09, so Semi-Pro for me. I'm winning games 2-0 or 3-1 and sometimes I get into high scoring games and I don't understand how scoring is hard? Played on Proffesional and I finished 1-1 but still getting used to ball control and tactics etc.

I play as Cardiff btw
 
not sure if this works for everyone but if i turn matchday off in kick off mode the teams are the exact same as the ones in career mode

eg.Real Madrid have: Rooney,Bale,Ronaldo,Aguero as their 4 attackers

i have just gone through the teams in the epl in exhibition mode and it has added the teams that got promoted and gotten rid of the teams that got relegated in my first season
 
Ugh, seems like the game has more problems than the previous versions. Player selection is really odd, never seems to go to the right one. Takes me forever to finally get the player I want - both defending and attacking.
I put a through ball to Monreal, which was going in his exact direction, yet the game thinks I am trying to go Ox.
End result? Monreal leaves it and it goes out.
AI loves that long ball over the top to the point you can pretty much feel comfortable enough that it's going to happen and can react to it.
I know it happens to my mates as well but, does anyone notice that it takes damn long to take a shot sometimes? I don't expect them to shoot it at 100 miles an hour as soon as I press shoot, but it seems like they take an eternity when I have all this free space, then a random foot will suddenly knock the ball away from me.

I'll keep persisting but it's disappointing so far. Online/versing mates is way more fun, although I don't play online as it's way too laggy and people just quit as soon as they concede.
Gonna go check the UT thread out, always interested to see who people get in packs - I haven't gotten anyone of note yet.

I was playing the PES Demo then turned FIFA on and realised how much more fun PES actually was.
