I thought Germany would win the world cup for a year pre the world cup like most people, but I changed it to Argentina a week before the cup started. I changed my tip because I expected Argentina to live up to the hype of their squad and they have not even come close to that.

The semi final proved this morning that this world cup has lacked the class and talent overall than the past 3 world cups that I can remember. Yes, the best players in the world played and they played really well but the difference between the good players and not so good players has been huge.

In any of the past three world cups, this dutch squad would not have even come close to a final let alone be considered to win it. Their squad in 2010 was so much better talent and depth wise. Same goes for Argentina, they are on par with Brazil and let's if Messi and Di Maria both missed against Germany they would get smashed in similar fashion to what Brazil did, maybe not score wise but play wise they would get killed. I don't know if Di Maria has been ruled out for the final as well yet but with out him they are no chance.

The German team is so much better than anyone else, and I am backing them to win 3-0 or 3-1 against Argentina. Hopefully Muller and Messi don't get James's golden boot.

As an Argentinian boy I think we will naturally win. My fingers are crossed that Di Maria gets up but its not looking good at this stage. I think we should play with Aguero and Higuian up front and messi right behind them. There is no point sitting back against these germans because that just plays straight into their hands!

The best team of the tournament won but the best team on the day did not. Argentina were outstanding today and should have won the game but I can't complain with Germany winning it, they are clearly the second best in the world after Spain. I would still have Spain on top even though they had a shocking tournament.

Messi winning the golden ball is laughable, he really is the love child of FIFA. How Pogba gets the best young player of the tournament ahead of James Rodriguez is also beyond me.

It's been great having the world cup especially during a terrible period for Collingwood.

Messi was great in the group stages but in the elimination games he didn't really fire a shot.

He did set up the goal against Belgium but yeah apart from that he has been missing. I hope people can now give it a rest when comparing him to Maradona, one carried his country through the knock out stages all on his own and the other was no where to been seen on the biggest stage in soccer.

I thought Boateng or Mascherano should have got the golden ball, did FIFA not watch the knockout stages? It was all about defense not offense.

Anyway either side would have been a deserved winner but Germany took that one chance and finished it before we went to a lottery shootout.

4 more years to wait for Messi, still not in the "greatness" category.

Hummels was better than Boateng but I think it probably should have gone to a German. Wouldn't have complaint if it went to Hummels, Muller or Lahm really.

And agree that the Messi/Maradona comparisons should now be over.
