It happens fairly regularly (every couple of years or so). They just open the weir and it all drains out.

I think I read something about them having problems with blue-green algae in the Torrens recently, so that's probably the reason behind it.

Mayor Harbison was on radio this morning and it was an error. The weir opened automatically and when the alarm went they had to manually close it.

I wonder how many ducks were lost. If you have had a car stolen go down and check.

Correct, and its all gone out to sea, not as Vadar suggested the usual 'controlled' draining.

Big oops on somebody's part then.

Torrens>>>>>>Yarra by so far it's not funny. If I had to jump in the Yarra to live, I wouldn't do it. Getting the ebola virus whilst swimming with rotting corpses and getting stuck by needles is not my idea of fun.

To be honest the Torrens was looking pretty awful over the last week or so.
It looked and smelled disgusting on Monday and Tuesday. Was in the worst condition that I've seen for a while.

I was pretty surprised to see it empty when I walked over the bridge this morning. Poor old Popeye was beached!

The HUGE question now remains, as this was not the usual 'controlled' drain of the Torrens, who in these drought conditions has the balls to give the approval to source water from elsewhere to refill the Torrens???

I think it would be pretty cool if they reduced it back to a river and made the grassed elder park area bigger, then redo the area south bank style

You know what really is ridiculous. They arent going to refill it. Because of water conservation.

whats the bet they wont even clean the river up whilst they have the chance.

So millions of litres of polluted water gets flushed into the sea killing bird and marine life and you think its funny.

Another reason why I think this planet, and especially the fauna, are doomed because there are so many who don't have the intelligence and/or heart to give a sh*t.

Nice one.

why wouldn't they just use grey water if that was such an issue?

and the amount of joy you're taking in this, is just plain weird.

You'll have to forgive Macca. He's living in Sunbury and not much happens out there. Apparently the sun rose this morning and the locals were amazed by the "big burning thingy in the sky". They were really happy as well as they thought they'd lost it for good last night.:p
