Tonight was our first final in 5 years & 1 day and the vast majority of our list hadn’t played a final before. Finals footy is clearly a different beast, so I’d thought I’d take a bit of a crack at ranking the guys playing their first final.

1. Adams – Apart from a couple of characteristic mistakes I thought was absolutely huge. We missed his influence when he was off late and it may have even cost us the game.
2. Sier – Faded a bit late but his first three quarters were sublime. He’s never rushed, has ridiculous vision & a vastly underrated boot. 17 contested possessions, 6 clearances, wow.
3. Crisp – Such an industrious player, keeps working & moving the ball forward. Not as prolific tonight as far as touches go but was important all night.
4. Maynard – His spoil (incorrectly paid as a free kick) was brilliant… he’s just a bull, doesn’t stop, black & white for 250 games.
5. Phillips – Worked hard as always, didn’t do a lot wrong.
6. Langdon – With a couple of guys back he was finally able to take a step back and for most of the game he was very good. Darling got on top late though obviously, not all Langdon’s fault.
7. Hoskin-Elliott – For a guy that missed the flight and turned up at half time I thought he was very good…… Loved him across half back too.
8. Mihocek – 2 goals 3… missed those easy ones early also. Didn’t disgrace himself at all, and we can’t forget where this guy’s come from after all. An important cog.
9. De Goey – Mixed game from Jordy. Kicked the two goals but like a few others wasn’t always the cleanest with the ball. Was an interesting decision to start him in the guts, could have been a good matchup for Yeo if he had the tank.
10. Howe – Defensively stood up well for most of the game but was so rusty early. Will be better next week
11. Stephenson – Presented well, kicked a beautiful goal and had a decent crack.
12. Aish – Such a mixed bag. Some of his work was awesome, some of it horrendous. Definitely holds his spot though.
13. Treloar – He was pretty good in close early but it was clear we rushed him in.
14. Cox – Some moments of decent contribution but overall a pretty subpar performance.

How they played they did look like they where Debutants/First Gamers in the Finals.

Hopefully lot Learnt tonight so we be more Prepared for next week vs GWS

De Goey was quiet. And on the big dollars would want to significantly improve next weekend.

Aish was simply terrible.

Cox may as well have not played.

The rest were quite good, especially Adams, Maynard & Hoskin-Elliott.

A bit harsh IMO Dave, most of them were very good for big parts of the evening. But having so many guys playing their first final - 14 vs 4 I think - was probably a disadvantage, especially in the most hostile away venue in the country.

A bit harsh on Aish. A couple of his mistakes were really obvious, but he did keep having a crack. A lack of hardness has been the question with him but I think he stood up tonight at times.

He was playing 1st Finals like Majority of the Team had no Experience in Finals so like Others Rushed with Disposal at Times

Hardness isn't a question. I believe he is tough.

Its horrendous composure, and skills with ball-in-hand thats the problem.

Yep. I think Aish will develop into a decent roleplayer for us - not yet firmly entrenched in the 22 but is pushing.

Shit Then I could say Majority of our Team has that Problem Then

Treloar was pure trash tonight.

He certainly got amongst it, tried his guts out but disposal/effectiveness was shit.

I thought he made a fairly good start to the game with some of his handballing in close but the longer the game went on, the worse he looked. He'll be much better next week. Well, he'd ****ing want to be

Cox.
Putrid.
A lack of decent forward target cost us in the end.
Darling + Kennedy stepped up in the last and blew our doors off.

You can tell Adams, Maynard and Grundy are finals players. They did everything they could given the circumstances.
Adams and Maynard I agree with.
Personally I didn't think Grundy did anything exceptional.
He was just another player out there, nothing special today.
Knowing Grundy he will be aware of that and the poor old GWS are going to have to face his fury next week.

I've been sitting here listening to Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream... why haven't I been listening to TISM? I tip my hat to you fat spider.. I'm on the drug.....

Trent Reznor is programming rage...over to that... perfect

Cox actually presented well, but the reality is that he couldn't clunk any marks. I think he got one mark on the wing late in game. He clearly needs to take more marks to make an impact.

We didn't seem to run onto many of his contests tonight to crumb.

He was a bit clumsy and fumbled tonight which made his game look even worse.

Should've handballed that one to Josh Thomas instead of trying the banana from the boundary.

Yeah he played his role at times but just didn't get it going. Unfortunately we kicked it to McGovern too many times which made him look worse.

Structurally though he is an important player for us and he'll definitely play next week.

Was an important first September outing for so many of our guys, and overall they weren't disgraced. A good first lesson and exposure to the frenzy of a final in WA. They will learn and be the better for it. Whether we can get up against GWS, who knows? But both Howe and Treloar will be better for the run, and Cox will drag himself back as he has done after other poor games.

Weagles got that early last quarter goal and simply played on after burners for the entire last quarter.

Have rarely seen so many balls bounce unerringly to one team in 50 years of watching the game though.

As for the umpiring in the last quarter - the less said the better really.

We didn't catch a single break all night and almost got there, the young lads can hold their heads up.

A few more opportunities our way, different result.

But at least we have a re-set button to beat the Giants.

Goes on from there.

A lot of pressure last night; so we had a good grounding. Better than what Sydney offered up

Definitely!

Win, lose or draw last night and next week are pure and absolute gold for our young team.
