Opinion First Captain under Walsh?

Instead of protecting himself he tries to dish it off to a team mate. Selfish prick!

Doing the spectacular isn't always the best team play, even if it exposes one to personal risk.

Dangerfield could be safer, and yet still play a better team game.

I don't think I ever said he was selfish, but there's unselfish footy which is also dumb footy.

It was a joke, in reference to people picking small details in the way he plays and assuming it's done purely out of selfishness and nothing else. I agree that he can play smarter, safer and better.

I guess garry ablett is selfish too...

Main issue I had with Danger was playing him injured like we stupidly did with other players like thommo & rutten.

Danger needs to have more composure with his disposal, but I can't fault his attitude.

Staggering he didn't get a rest away v freo or GWS. A fresh Danger and we could of easily jagged another game and made finals. Then Sando could still be coaching so probably worked out for the best.

Sando refused to rest players. Even gws and Gold Coast and gws first years when the win was a certainty.

That would be the safe way to go. No feelings get hurt and regardless of form, there's always a spot in the 21 for the bloke with the (c) next his name.

I only say that because Phil likes blokes like VB, team first etc, I also don't think VB will be a tagger and will be played in a role, such as a hbf or even on wing.

Despite all the shit he cops, he is a above average AFL player and is clearly well regarded by the club.

Sloane is team first and can get the job done, question marks a plenty over VB. VB plays his best footy as a tagger, when he played as a wingman in 2013 he should have been dropped.

A lot of ordinary players, coaches and other staff have been well regarded by our club. They're slowly being moved on or perhaps having their rating challenged. Some will rate higher under a new regime and some lower. In terms of player ratings, I think VB may be on the slide. I don't think his 2013 year followed by a full injury year is too helpful.

I guess we have a few days to wait.

At least we'll have discussion post announcement.

As an outsider looking in, Dangerfield has the ability to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and will his team to victory, the perfect match day Skipper! Give it to him and play the guilt card to sign. If he walks at seasons end, no one (bar Port supporters) will remember the 'mistake' Adelaide make, however the stigma of being a poor character will follow him for far longer right around Australia!

I recall Walsh being quoted as saying that he wants to get into the match simulations before coming to a conclusion. I'm not expecting anything for about 4 weeks. I know it's getting late, but surely this is a decision that Walsh will need to confident about. Especially if he ends up being required to qualify his choice to the board.

Yea, I wouldn't be expecting it 'til sometime towards the end of the month at the earliest.

I have no problem with Van Berlo being made captain providing the club is willing to do what it takes if his form slumps. Up until now, the captain is usually untouchable at the selection table but we need to be more flexible if things go sour. Given his injury lay off and form prior to that, it'd take a pretty brave person to guarantee his performance. I just don't want to see us persist with it if it clearly isn't working.

Here is my take. It's Sloane but they have not sorted out his new contract yet. They don't want to announce it yet with question marks over his long term commitment to the club. Once he's signed they will announce him as Captain.

Why is it really disturbing?

Might be too strong a word.

Still, I'd hope an incoming coach had a pretty good idea of where we're at and his plan long before he takes the reigns.

You just wonder if we could have made any progress yet if we're still in the assessment stage.

Well, it could also be that they're wanting to see how vB pulls through more training after his Achilles, perhaps they want to assess lost pace etc.

IMO, if there was a change that was just waiting on one or two fait accompli's to occur, then they would have likely given vB the strong hint to announce he's standing aside.
