Vdubs, was that game in 1980?
I remember being on the Moorabool street side wing at that game and I was absolutely freezing my extremities off.
It was bitterly cold and the rain was driving down.
Ian Nankervis was BOG if I recall correctly.
I must admit that it is the only game that I have left before the siren. I left around half time.
I, as a rule, stay at the game regardless of whether we are winning by 100+ or losing by the same margin.
I walked home to Thomson and was glad to change out of soaking wet clothes and stand by the fire.
Bingo

Yep, that is the game.
Shivering just thinking about it.
It was freezing. I actually went for a 12 km run after that game; on a high. Ran with a well known ex steeplechaser. Keeping up with him got me warm.

My first game must have been early to mid 1970s. Mum took me and we stood on the Latrobe Terrace side. I remember old timber stands and wanting to stand on the steps so I could see. It wasn't permitted for peasant kids to do so. lol I couldn't see much and all of the adults were giants, both spectators and players.

I also remember going to game with my uncle at a young age. I have no idea who we played.
Later on I remember going again with mum to a few matches in the old Hickey stand when it was the new Hickey stand. I might have been in my early teens.
I remember as a child Geelong never seemed to be on the replay on Saturday nights.

Forward a few more years and I lived not far from the ground and used to walk there. We'd go early to sit on the timber seats on the Moorabool Street side down near what is now the Abblet Terrace. I remember getting hammered by the Hawks. Back when they used to come to Geelong. Fortunately I started going to some away matches in the 80s when GAS was at his peak.

After living away from Geelong for a number of years I started going occasionally with my in-laws. I had small children by then and a trip to the footy was a rare treat.

Eventually we had our own seats in the HIckey Stand and took the kids when they were old enough.

I still sit in the stand down that end of the ground.

My first KP experience was taking the train to see us play the pies (My brothers team). It was late 60s. Can't remember the year. Geelong came into the last quarter a few goals down. We only had 17 players on the park for the final quarter.
Goggin, Wade and Ryan sprung to life and we got within a couple of points and the bloody siren went. It was a long trip home with a gloating older brother, but I was so proud of the skills and the effort to fight it out.
A day to never forget.
I realised how talented Len Thompson was that day
