I think alot will depend on how recruiters and scouting teams view the 'classes' within the draft class itself. Much has been made of the overall quality of the draft, and how deep it runs, but there will still be a further difference in quality within the group itself.
At this stage I imagine there is a cluster of 8-10 guys in that first 'elite' group, so to speak, before that 'next round' of 15-20 guys (deemed fairly even all the way out to the 2nd round) begins. Basically, if we end up with a pick within that 'next round', our ability (or any clubs ability for that matter) to trade up or down will be, I suspect, significantly easier than in other years, such is the quality that stretches out.
That all being said though, clubs will be alot smarter (and therefore harder) in their dealings than say, 2001 (as you've rightfully pointed out).
