If I can recall Allen was a fair player. I think he crossed to Collingwood in the early 80's around the same time as Irwin. He will forever be remembered for hitting Simon "The Pieman" Beasley on the chest with one of the best stab passes of all time to give Footscray a late win over Coolingwood at the Western Oval.

This is a great thread. I would like to nominate Paul Morrish. heck me and my mates hated him. If he had of worn Hawkins like a glove we would never have lost that game to Footscray at PP early 90's.

The worst player I ever saw in the Fitzroy guernsey was Gary Cosier, the Test cricketer. He played one season in the rezzies, probably around mid to late 70s. He never played in the ones.

The reason for this was he NEVER got a possession in the rezzies. I never saw him kick or handball the ball during the entire season. The only thing he did well was stand on the mark. He did a lot of that.

I've seen that on the 'That was the season that was 1983' video. It was against Carlton on a wet day and he took a mark about 5 metres out on a slight angle. The funniest thing about it is hearing Lou Richards' commentary on it:

The worst thing about O'Reily's shot was even if it had been on line, he kicked it so low that it would've gone into the man on the mark!

But it was a good day for Fitzroy as they destroyed Carlton by 10 goals, with Micky Conlan getting a memorable goal after running through the entire Carlton defence.

Carl Dilena, Wally Matera, Joe Cormack, all did some decent stuff in some matches (Cormack was great against WCE in Tassie) but all were of no long-term value.

I dunno if these were around long enough to be fully crappy. Its like saying I was a crappy Roys player, so bad that I didn't even play for them.

Its a hard topic to define, because you sort of have to stick with the ones who were given enough senior airtime, AND enough expectation, to know that they were crap.

Also its hard to pick because some of the crappier efforts of a player happen throughout one season, while in the one before or after they can be quite good. Example : David O'Connell. My memory of him was of a crap player, but I believe he played quite well in a season or two other than the one in which he was really crap.

Surely Luke Vassalo was a crappier player than Jeff Hogg, but Vassalo never played a senior match, and probably did a few things in the reserves worthy of note. Its a blurry issue.
