Harry Taylor is about to be interviewed by Gerard Healy on 3AW Sports Today. Healy is one of the AA selectors. Makes me think Taylor is in the final squad of 22 whic HAS already been selected.

please, please, please, please put lonergan in the 22.

the most deserving of it in the AFL currently.

if i could choose one full back from anywhere else, id say 'no thanks' and stick with him.

also, courage personified, and the most underrated player on our list currently. the guy has reinvented himself, and come back from an injury that many would choose not to risk. its not like he was a dominant player when it happened, either. he had to work his way back into the side like few would have wanted to.

also, pick hawkins.

I man well that sux

I still reckon he will get in though because he along with Taylor have been absolutely sensational this year.
Without those two, we likely would have lost a couple more games

Surprised Chapman has not been recognized either, he's kicked nearly 40 goals while gathering like 20 odd touches per game
if he played like he has the last 6 or so weeks for majoirty of the year, no doubt he would be in the 22

Not really I still remember 1991 when the Hawks did not ever snare one player in the AA side.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

Really...jeez. Makes you think hey.

I now they cant choose lots of players as its only a 40 man squad, but seriously, how does Cyril get in over Chappy. Its not all stats thats for sure, but really, Chalk and Cheese from what iv seen.

Anyone get the stats for each.

Congrats Lonners on making the 40 thats a great achievement in itself.

Pretty confident regarding Hawkins and Taylor, maybe Lonergan. Selwood and Enright bit dubious on; had good years, but nowhere in the realm of some players.

Out of the nominations, I would say they have it pretty right. Johnson potentially the only one unlucky, but even then, its no big deal.

I think they've got it spot on. I'd say Hawkins and Taylor are very good chances. Selwood next to none, Lonergan doubtful, and Enright a definite maybe.

It's a weighted popularity contest like most things in footy now. Voted by half a dozen drunks (journalists) and some clowns from the AFL. It's nice and everything but doesn't exactly change much.

Steve Johnson a bit stiff, but then again there a truckload of worthy AFL midfielders vying for spot.

All of our players were very worthy nominations.
People denigrating Corey Enright on the main board need to question if they actually like AFL or just like whinging and making a girly drama; he was excellent again this year and has been recognised by his inclusion in the squad of 40.

Couldn't get over some knobstick Collingwood supporter claiming Enright had been getting by on reputation alone for years.

Having said that, I don't think I'd be too bothered if none of our players actually made the final side; lots of borderline selections, it really is a flip of a coin (or more likely just AA selectors personal preference) for some spots most years.

Also think Boris will be in.
Not necessarily because I think his season has been overly great, but look at the other players in the squad that play a similar position.
Grant Birchall is an obvious inclusion on the HBF, and I think Enright will be the other.

Mackie a bit stiff?? Unique player in consistent career best form.

Regardless of whether he gets in or not, Enright has had an awesome season despite a slow start after his off-season surgery.
In years gone by he has offered more rebound (= more stats), but this year he has just struck a really good balance between defense and attack; also, his touches have been pure quality once he hit his very top form.
When it has been tight, in games against good opposition, Enright has stood up and shown his class; can't ask for more than that imo.

I agree, and I personally didn't think he would get in until I saw the other nominees who play off half back, and it's pretty slim pickings, provided they don't put midfielders in positions they don't belong in for the sake of having them in the team.

haha, I didn't want to say it but I was definitely thinking it; he has had a great year, particularly early on when we were struggling for cohesion. He's managed to snag a few goals in the 2nd half of the season too.
he could go top 5 in our B&F this year (for the first time ?); been really consistent, missed maybe one game.

underrated, people don't like him because he is skinny and looks like a private schoolboy but I've really come to appreciate the Mack since he fought his way back into the side last year; and listening to him talk he has a real love for the club and his team mates.

He's had just as good a year as Boris. I guess they went for the guy with the proven track record.

I think Selwood is deserving of a spot, he carried us in some of those early games we struggled in and has had his best year yet.

Interesting to look at who they're competing against for spots:

Hawkins (Walker, Pavlich, Franklin, Petrie, Riewoldt, Riewoldt) - I think you can scrub taylor walker and nick riewoldt out of contention, and franklin may have missed too many games (6) at the business end of the year. expect three talls to make it.
Taylor/Lonergan (McPharlin, Glass, Richards) - i think it'll come down to one or the other
Enright (Reilly, deledio, dempster, waters) - at first i thought he must have only just snuck into the squad but against those names he's a big chance.
Selwood (dangerfield, thompson, beams, pendlebury, swan, ablett, birchall, mitchell, swallow, cotchin, hayes, jack, jetta, kennedy) - a lot of competition for spots, but based on last year's team, 10 midfielders should make the best 22

No way would I have Birchall in the midfield. He will get a half back flank spot mark it down.
Beau Waters has also impressed me this season actually.

I honestly think Lonergan deserves it more than Taylor. Lonergan has saved Harry from having bags kicked on him a few times this year, and Tom is one of the reasons Taylor can player a little loose and take all those marks.

People will complain that Enright is a token inclusions but he's been virtually as good this year as the past 4 or 5. It's just now people aren't getting the dream team scores they want from him so consequently think he's had a bad year.
Understatement. When we were struggling, he saved our arse so many times this year it wasn't funny.

doesn't the FF spot go straight to the Coleman Medalist? So Hawkins would need to grab CHF. Don't know about that.

good one :thumbsu:
I love the way he plays, I'd assume most like the way he goes about it and he's been huge for them now that he's had a rather good run with injuries this year.

Exactly the type of player that would be drooling over the prospect of finals

I'd definitely give him a spot, and I think it will be opposite Birchall on a HBF.
Richards, McPharlin and Rutten will fill up the main spots I'd have thought.
