Collingwood selected Steele Sidebottom with its first pick, No. 11 overall, Dayne Beams was picked with number 29.
Jarrod Blight was chosen at 45, Luke Rounds at 46 and former North Melbourne defender Leigh Brown rounds out the final selection at 73.
Collingwood’s national recruiting manager, Derek Hine, was really pleased with the result from the draft.
“I think we have been able to come away really pleased that we have been able to address our midfield,” Hine stated”.
Collingwood used all five picks on Saturday morning and will welcome these players to their first training session with the rest of the team on Monday.
Pick 11 – Steele Sidebottom
Derek Hine (National recruiting manager) says: Steele is an elite midfielder who has got elite endurance. We are able to bring players in who are able to perform on the big stage. Steele is an elite performer when the stage is at its greatest so we are very pleased.
Pick 29 – Dayne Beams
We rated Dayne really highly and from our side of things it’s the luck of the draw. We have been following Dayne for a long period of time and with Scott Burns going out he is going to give us some real strength around the ball. His hands are elite. I think the Magpie fans will be really pleased with him.
Pick 45 – Jarrod Blight
“We really didn’t anticipate him being there so we are really pleased to call his name. He is a tall utility from Swan Districts and can play forward and back.
Pick 46 – Luke Rounds
Luke is another 17 year old who is from the Geelong Falcons. He is an elite runner. He carry’s the ball well. I think he will initially come in and play as that running defender and then push into the midfield.
Pick 73 – Leigh Brown
(We were) just really mindful of getting some support in defence. We really needed that security down back.
