All preseason we heard the club talk of flexibility. It was about a focus in players being able to play multiple roles. But as the season went on we became more rigid and fixed. I strongly believe this, along with the mental application cost us the GF.

Our backline was a bad selection. Hartifan was clearly out of place and we needed another mid to small to counter their mid sized attack. Talia had Reiwoldt, Caddy could be contained by Kelly, Lever to intercept and Brown and Laird to their smalls. But they had two more mid to small options where our line up wasnt obvious. We clearly needed another mid to small defender brought in but didnt. Should we have brought in Hampton, Milera wouldn't have been the answer, Doedee could of been good if we had tried him.

Harto would have been best being shifted forward instead if Otten. He has mongrel and can take a grab.

So AFC, this offseason and 2018 season proper can we look to be a little more creative with our team and shift players to give us options

They said they wouldn't play injured players either yet plenty were carrying them at various times . Stupid ass obsession with team continuity over team balance. Then come gf day we have no one to play except talls and scratch heads as to why the small fast Richmond is "everywhere". Any new coaching staff hired at the club must be put through rigorous intelligence and common sense testing.

The problem is I think is we all misunderstood what Don meant by wanting flexible players. He does want guys to be flexible and be able to move to different positions, but he's much to structured to make those sort of changes on gameday and the "flexible" part only comes in when something like Brodie gets injured and Mackay can fill his role and we don't need to go bring in another bloke out of the 28 guys that Pyke wants to use.

Same with Otten, he's flexible, so he can cover multiple players if someone gets hurt and we don't have to worry about going deep into our depth to cover someone.

Happy to have this moved but it was a hallmark of preseason that was absent when push came to shove at the pointy end.

Needs discussion and a direct query to the club come preseason

I like the idea of Harti up fwd, that should have been the move and another mid played. Lever should also be tried up fed as you need leaping markers. Jenkins, Walker and Lynch take 90 percent of their marks on leads.Hartigan was one if the few that could hold their head up after Saturday tho
