Bumps like that would occur 100 times in every match played.

The injury was a complete accident, but the fact it was unnecessary will probably see Lindsay get pinged.

Damn, i left a whole word out there lol, post was supposed to say ''I didn't think there was much in it'' lol, was on the turps.

I agree he'll probably get rubbed out, but yeah, wasn't a great deal in it, our great game is in a sad state.

I'm not that interested in the technicalities of it. It wasn't a clean shepherd, but that's my opinion.

The way Thomas exagerated the impact of the incident, the way his teammates encouraged him, and the North supporters cheering him on. I have little respect left for that player.

Whether he gets 10 weeks or zilch, it was an act of questionable character. He took his eye of the ball and lined Reid up, who was vulnerable because his focus was the ball. I'm glad there's no snippers (that I know of) in our current side.

I'm not trying to stir the pot here but people are making out as if the ball was 50m away.... it was 5m give or take a couple. Reid was running to the contest and Thomas has every right to lay a shepherd and Reid needed to be more aware of that, that's why our game is great, it's physical and that's why we love it. But he didn't leave the ground and he didn't hit him in the head with his shoulder, it was a clash of heads and it's unfortunate and I felt bad for Reid because he is a good, honest player and nobody wants to see that happen to anyone, incidental contact is a part of our game. For it to be intentional would mean that Thomas intentionally tried to create a head clash, which is incorrect. Fair to say that if it was the other way around, and Thomas was on the ground after a bump like that from Reid no one here would have a problem, nor should they. But to to say he is a sniper over an accidental head clash is a stretch.

Ball had well and truly gone to another contest, the bump was completely unnecessary.

Under the new rules if you bump - accidental or not you are held responsible for any damage caused.

He should be in trouble. There was no need to bump when the ball had been gone.

Didn't like the acting but the bump, well it was probably intended to hurt, but not a big deal really.

What I didn't like was North getting around Hansen for sinking a knee into Russell's back at quarter time. Sure, make someone earn it, but the whole team congratulation thing makes me think next time a North defender will taste brain fluid.

Just watched and as a neutral there should be no report. He went to lay a bump and they clashed heads. It's a contact sport. Nothing dirty about it at all.

The issue was it was late, intentional and off the ball. The head clash and injury was unfortunate but you still can't lay late bumps. And you still can't have head high contact accidental or not. I think what has pissed off most Pies fans the most is the celebration by Thomas after the hit and the arse slapping of his team mates. I think that's poor form.

Late?

Shepherds (which include bumps) are intentional and off the ball by nature.

It's been cleared. Technically, post the Maxwell/McGinnity bump, the onus was on the bumper to not cause injury, legs leaving the ground or not. But okay with that decision.

Not as bad as my first impression had it. I thought it was further off the ball, as in a situation where Reid couldn't effect the play. You crack down on that and you start over sanitising the game.

LINDSAY Thomas didn't escape unscathed from his sickening head clash with Collingwood's Ben Reid on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.

The North Melbourne forward suffered bruising to the right side of his jaw and swelling, despite being able to play out the game.

But the third-term collision ended Reid's day, with the defender suffering concussion and bleeding from the mouth.

Reid arrived for recovery at the Westpac Centre on Monday showing no ill-effects from the big hit.

"I feel good, and it was good to have a win," Reid told reporters.

The Collingwood captain displays his class and sportsmanship again:

The contact sparked a post-game war of words between rival coaches Brad Scott and Nathan Buckley, but Collingwood skipper Nick Maxwell has moved to ease tensions.
"It's part of the game; we go to war (when) the first siren goes, and the last siren goes, that finishes it," he said on Monday.
"It's all part of the game, so I'm sure everything will be dealt with in due course.
"[I'm] very proud of the boys and the way they went about it."
He could teach his coach a thing or two.

Be "neutral" all you like but first know the rules if your going to comment.

Well done to the players that stood up and flew the flag after the Thomas bump. They all went to Reid when he jogged off afterwards.

Looking at the incident, Thomas will get a few for that.
a few beers? lol

he got cleared.... you know that right? lol
Of course i do, doesn't mean the MRP got it right. The MRP is a joke in its consistency & this is just another.

mate camon.... if his shoulder hit him in the head then ok... but they clashed heads..... Thomas could have been knocked out too....

Not sure you're being deliberately ignorant so I'll explain it for. If you take your eye of the ball, change your direction, make contact off the ball, you are responsible for the resultant contact.

Here are the rules:

15.4.4 charge or charging

(a) A Charge means an act of colliding with an opposition
Player where the amount of physical force used is
unreasonable or unnecessary in the circumstances,
irrespective of whether the Player is or is not in
possession of the football or whether the Player is
within 5 metres of the football.

(b) Without limiting the general application of Law 15.4.4 (a),
a Charge occurs when a Player unreasonably or
unnecessarily collides with an opposition Player:

(i) who is not within 5 metres of the football;

(ii) who, although within 5 metres of the football, is
not in the immediate contest for the football and
would not reasonably expect such contact;

(iii) who is attempting to Mark the football or who has
Marked the football or been awarded a Free Kick;

(iv) after that Player has disposed of the football;

(v) who is Shepherding another Player on their
Team; or

(vi) before the football is brought into play

http://aflcommunityclub.com.au/file...the_Game/Laws_of_Australian_Football_2013.pdf

The contact occurred within 5 metres, Reid was in the immediate contest for the football as he was pursuing Hansen, the amount of physical force used was not unreasonable or unnecessary in the circumstances, considering Thomas had only changed direction and taken one step before contacting Reid.

It was just bad luck that they had a head clash. Nothing more.
