Now that Season 2008 is officially over, its time to look to 2009.

At this moment in time, you wouldn't feel overly optimistic and confident after our performance tonight. Though tonight depicted just how much more improvement we require, you have to keep in mind that we have achieved more wins this year then we did from 06-07 combined!

To miss out on a finals birth when some say we could have/should have been sitting there is obviously disappointing as it always at the top of the agenda at the beginning of the season. But to be so close is a fantastic effort considering:

  • We are the youngest list in the comp
  • We had no dominant ruckman that would win the majority of the taps
  • Our defense is extremely young
  • We had one sole forward that finished 75 or so goals higher then our next leading goal kicker
  • Judd didn't get close to full fitness until around the round 17 mark
  • Everyone of our quality midfielders is 25 or under
  • We played under a brand new coach that implemented a new game plan
Once we get ourselves a ruckman that will win taps, whether he be a long term plan like a Warnock or one that will be their in the short term to help the development of Kreuz and Hammo like Jeff white, will mean drastic improvement because the heavy load that is ruck burden will be taken off those 2 young blokes shoulders.

Another leading forward will be very handy to take the workload off Fev and a crumbing forward similar to Eddie who can sneak in 25-30 goals in a season, would do as a world of good. You only had to watch Cyril tonight to see how much of a difference a quick, young goal sneak can bring to a club.

Don't you worry ladies and gents, we are going places and I am sure as hell we will make the finals next year for the first time since 2001! Players like Gibbs and Murphy have matured dramatically in the past year and the other number 1 already looks a shining star.

What the Football world is forgetting is we had 5 games that could have easily ended up in wins. These include the matches against the Crows, Bombers (twice) Saints and Tigers. Those games would have added another 5 wins which would have put us equal 3rd.
I am sure that next year, we won't let these games surpass us as we will be better, stronger and hungrier for glory.

9-10 wins was what every supporter would have taken but anything less then a finals appearance next year would be a extreme disappointment.

I look forward to seeing the resurgence of the blues in 2009 as we climb up the ladder back we're we so rightfully belong!
GO BLUES:thumbsu:

add the swans game into that too!!
yeah definately.

will be great next year just to go for carlton every game and not pay any attention to our draft picks as i am a supporter that didn't mind losing some games. (mind you there has only been one or two games like that this year).

i am also excited about the next five or so months as they include my favourites-
trade week.
de-listingings.
draft camp.
national draft.
pre-season draft.
rookie's, international and scholarship players.
pre-season training.
