It's not a "cop out". It's a stone cold fact. The Koran and Christian Bible both teach that homosexuality is a sin. So if people have got an issue with Israel Folau's homophobic tweets, then why do they say nothing and do nothing about the hate speech of these religions?

The only cop out that I can see is YOU and your ilk for acting as though this homophobia is kept behind closed doors of he churches and mosques. It's not. It's right out in the open. It's preached by it's outspoken followers and it's right there in black and white in their religious texts (freely available and supplied to school children.)

It's the reason why gay catholic priests stay in the closet for fear of being ex-communicated. It's why gay people are persecuted in many countries where Islam is the dominant religion

There are some Christians and Muslims who are ashamed about this aspect of their religion. But they do nothing. They avoid the topic. Or they use cop-outs such as "God loves his children" and say that only the homosexual act itself is a sin.

Let's stop copping out and let's tackle the root cause of this homophobia instead of picking on individuals who merely echo the teachings of their religion.
Very well said. This is the crux of the issue - it is not an individual problem and pretending that these teachings of hate are OK as long as it happens behind closed doors is not acceptable in Australia or anywhere else in the world. I'm still shaking my head at the young homosexual in this thread who called Islam a beautiful religion - absolutely disgraceful... Needs to travel the world and open his eyes to reality.

What are your views on Islam? Are you aware of its intolerance towards your homosexuality? Would it bother you to know that is highly likely Muslim Sports stars think what you do is wrong and will also lead to their version of hell they just don't say it on Twitter?
Hahaha, ****ing hell how predictable.

I think Satan cops a bad rap, he loves mankind and wanted us to enjoy the apples from the garden of Eden. Who is this turkey that plants an apple tree and forbids people to eat the fruit from it, how idiotic is this god? This is the dude that drowned everyone for fornicating? What a killjoy.

In the afterlife Hell is going to be the party to be at, good luck kissing arse for all eternity slaving away for some degenerate who hates you for minor grievances. Satan welcomes everyone!

It's the main reason why a whopping 4,873,987 Australians recently voted against Same Sex marriage

No, it’s a total copout by anybody to say “I can say it because it’s my religious belief”.

That doesn’t fly in a secular society. It MAY FLY behind closed doors at your church (which is what I said), but it won’t outside.

How is that “acting as though it’s behind closed doors”? Of course people sprout it in the open. And they should face the consequences. Folau has and he fully deserves it.

No it's not. You need a better dictionary.
Hating on people and using your religion to justify it? Now we're talking.
No it is, you just need to get your head out of your arse. Read the definition and then tell me how Folau following the the bible's text, is 'intolerant to any ideas other than his own'. You're the bigot if you believe that he is.

How old were you 40 years ago? I can tell you many if not most people, never considered homosexuality wrong or immoral then either, despite whatever laws you are referring to. I'm not sure why you've made this your fight.

Bullshit, forty years ago Australia was nearly 80% Christian. It was still about 55% at the most recent census. Why should Folau be punished for reciting something that a majority of the population believe?

RA's position needs to be tested in court.

It's completely false to say every Christian holds the belief that homosexuality is a sin.

If that was the case, we wouldn't have same sex marriage.

You might want to bear in mind point 1.9, Player Obligations, in this Standard AFL Victoria Playing Contract.

In Folau's case, I'd suggest Rugby Australia's contract is a little more specific and given he has previously been advised to refrain from making those kinds of comments, I'd imagine there is very little illegality within his contract.

A non-compulsory postal survey is not as comprehensive as a census.

Sure, take off a few percent for those who call themselves Christians and disagree with that particular teaching. Then add on adherents of other religiions which forbid homosexuality (you know the one), and non-religious people with the same opinion.

Whether such restrictions stand up in court is something else entirely.

Then I look forward to you championing the legality of playing contracts within the Tigers list with similar gusto, given their contracts would undoubtedly be similar.

I disagree, I think that people acknowledge that this was a direct attack on religion that could have been done in another way without making a mockery of it. Let's not ignore the obvious Marxist agenda! I voted 'NO' for a number of reasons but I want to avoid religious extremism and I think that it should be taken into account that this is gonna seriously piss off the Muslim purists in Muslim controlled countries. How can we be ignorant to a Jihad happening right now and why would we want to incite that when we could have addressed it in a more subtle way and not have made the western world ideologically opposed to the muslim world. The question that should be asked is why would homosexuals want to be married in a place that has stirred up so much hatred against them over centuries. If I was homosexual, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with the church and that is what should have been accommodated for, rather than this 'marriage hypocrisy' vote. On one hand, they want to be acknowledged by the church and on the other, they want to discredit it. The truth is that it all about the latter and people here speak of religion in such a despicable way yet fully support gays being married in their churches, which sounds like a hypocrisy to me! People that have common sense, know that the 'Marriage Equality' BS was a ploy!
