Out of curiosity, would you be OK with a Muslim player being sacked for posting some **** from the Quran declaring Homosexuals should be stoned to death?
My personal beliefs irrelevant. It's a slippery slope and will have unintended consequences giving the State unintended rights.

To be fair I’ve gone through his entire Twitter and seen only one (well two if you count Miranda Devine’s tweet to him about his tweet but it’s one and the same) example of where he says gays are going to hell (along with the rest of us). He actually gives it far more to other Christians he considers to be inauthentic con artists than he does to any other group??

Then there’s also a good dash of stuff like this:

I don’t think he’s anywhere near the monster that people are making him out to be, by all accounts he appears to be a fairly decent person who has some at times misguided, blindly passionate (slightly brainwashed) views that aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but to say he is inciting hate via his social media accounts is being rather outrageous

Finally, some people are actually using their brains.

It’s called a contract.

We ( Rugby Australia ) will pay you ( Folau ) a million dollars a season, subject to you agreeing to the following conditions. These conditions include clauses relating to respect for others religion, sex, colour etc.

The agreement is signed by Folau.

Folau contravenes those conditions ( multiple times ), RA say thanks very much, but we are withdrawing the million dollar contract.

If you don’t like the contract conditions, so be it, but don’t expect to be paid a million dollars.

OK, but what happened to the respect of his religion and beliefs?

It's a difficult one. They are trying to be inclusive and given he is a spokesperson for the sport... he needs to be careful. It's also written into his contract what his conduct should be.. so being sacked for it is like being sacked for calling someone a ****wit at work. Is it illegal? no... but it's a sackable offence. I don't agree with him not being able to voice his opinions though, even though I do not agree with it at all. Nothing to do with woke culture or anything like that.. it's all about trying to make sure they get people through the gates.

How many ordinary non rugby people would of even known about the tweet if it wasn’t for the ARU clearly falling over themselves to appease there chief sponsor over the issue.

Funny, until he came out I always thought he was gay
I think Serena Williams has a fat arse an lubre lips, just my personal view, does that mean I should lose my job.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but it seems nowadays if you're not black gay or transgender your not entitled to one.

Plenty of people? He's a popular figure with fans of many sports. It's social media.. once a journalist saw it, it would be news. The ARU weren't even the first to act. Such weird logic. Which alias are you? Denkver Bot?

???

The State isn't involved here.
blackcat is one of the many koolaid drinkers. It's all about the deepstate. Restricting his rights is the ARU acting on behalf of the deepstate and it's going to filter down to all of us where we won't be able to say ANYTHING!

Agree. Surely the publication he paraphrased from should also eventually be banned. History will look back and laugh at social media and what people were allowed to publish.

Why should he be allowed to voice his opinions if they are hateful?

There is a broader issue at play here too. Does Folau (or any other player) own their own profile and fame, or is it owned by the ARL? Or is ownership of it shared between the player and league?

You don't see any reason in the future where the state could get involved in situations like this?
The public sphere is much more amendable to freedom of speech than the private sphere.

This and the social media stuff requires a recasting of freedom of speech within private businesses. That's what the conservatives upset about this need to understand.

For now maybe, but the private business is only reacting to the public backlash. What's the next step?

I am opposite to BC. I welcome the eventual state intervention into what can be published on social media.

And here it is summed up very neatly. Nothing else needs to be added other than on top of breaching his agreement, he went AWOL (including missing training) and didn't return RA's calls, leaving them with no other choice.

They were respected, termination proceedings did not begin because he was religious. In fact he's been religious for the entirety of his time in Rugby as far as I'm aware. He was allowed to practice his religion, what he wasn't allowed to do was to selectively preach very select sections of the bible vilifying a particular group.

In fact, termination proceedings didn't even begin because of that. They began because IF was warned on previous occasions that posting comments like this were not in line with RA's policies, he agreed to stop, he then did it again, missed training and was not contactable for days and still hasn't taken the post down. That is why, nothing to do with his freedom of religion.

Accept the conditions of the contract if you want the money. If you want to come out publicly and put others down, so be it, but you have signed a contract to respect others beliefs.

If he wants to mouth off about his beliefs, that’s ok, but this is contry to his RA contract.

Scratching my head a bit here, he wants people to respect his religion ( no one has ever told him to stop being a GOOD christian ), but he believes it is okay to belittle people’s sexuality.

In closing, a GOOD christian respects thy fellow man.
