Looks like someone will be doing a marathon....glad its them and not me despite being very fit and running not being my go.
He’s in a very fortunate position to have an elite runner as running coach! Having someone to guide on how to go about setting up a training plan, manage injuries makes all the difference.
…speaking from my very current experience of training for my first marathon at age 48 (Melb. Marathon in 2 weeks). I’ve never been so fit in my life, but damn I can’t wait for full taper to start next week!

I could imagine how tough it will be.

My running is about 2-4 kms and the rest is in CrossFit style short bursts / HIIT style and sprints up hills / dunes, but having no experience in distance running (the max I've done is the 10km Gold Coast run a few times well over 10 years ago and that was my limit; the last 2-3 kms even in that I thought were brutal), so I could only imagine how difficult a 42km run would be off no base whatsoever.
It was when I conceded there’s more to running than just running, and that it really started to click. Strength training, sprint sessions, hills, and hitting the pavement regardless of the weather, plus a healthy dose of self-loathing to get through the long Sunday runs! 😂

…this is all ahead for Dom should things go our way this weekend. He’s got plenty of runway to next year’s gold-coast marathon so should be able to do it with Fish’s guidance.

I was struggling to get to sleep last night so did a li'l exercise in my mind and it turns out that in the 50 seasons I've been following the game, we're now on the second rung for premierships won. It goes:

Hawks 11
Lions, Carlton 5
Essendon, Geelong, Richmond, Weagles 4
Pies, North 3
Swans, Crows 2
Melbourne, Port, Dogs 1

Not bad I guess. Hawthorn though :unamused:

There must be a small number of aging Hawks fans who've witnessed every premiership win in person.

Hawks are the only club that has won at least one flag in every decade from the 1960s to the 2010s, but only have four more attempts to get one in the 2020s.

I was trying to think how many years I have been following the game but I can't think how to work out a starting point. My family has always followed it and I just followed suit (albeit swapping to the Bears). I imagine you're similar, how did you work out your starting point?

Very easy for me to pinpoint. First game I went to.

I was 7 1/2 at the time, so a late starter!

I was 9 1/2 before my first game (also at VFL Park) in 1979, a few months before we moved to Brisbane.

I think it took a while for my parents to recover from the shock of the 1970 Grand Final to take us to a game after that

I think i played my first game in 1961 as an 8-year-old.
I also think the U9's was the youngest you could get into at that time.
I do know i played the first year QAFL allowed youth to play at Club level
Prior to that i watched my brothers play at The Gabba, Perry Park and other local senior grounds

I only really paid attention when a mate moved from Tasmania to my high school and talked up AFL so much, even got us to play scratch matches on the oval. That's later but it'd also be approximately 150 years after you.

I played my first game in 1972 as an 8 year-old and my last in 2001.
U10's was the youngest in my local league in SE Melbourne.
Mum and dad both followed VFL as did both lots of grandparents.
I grew up thinking everyone in Melbourne must be a footy fanatic.

I played my first game of soccer as a 7 year old in 1967 and my last(Futsal) in 2019 at 60 years of age.... did have a long break in the middle of that 52 year span though.

Ty Gallop :blueheart:... and Christian Petracca, did not know this.

Another humiliation for Silly Dilly

This one was a bit unfortunate for the AFL that the NRL got all the Vics watching, NSW and Qld. Basically the perfect Storm for big viewership.

Absolutely gross that this will be used to remove our glorious 2:30pm grand final start.
Except that the NRL are looking to move their GF from being a night game to an earlier in the day timeslot (even while we are looking at potentially going where they want to leave...)

Saw my first game in 1960 Brunswick St oval.We list to Geelong then possibly won 9 straight.

Looked it up > @ BSO, Round 3 7th of May 1960(I was 4 months old and living in St Kilda)... Geelong 8-7-55 def Fitzroy 5-11-41.

Then defeated Richmond, Footscray, Essendon, (lost to St Kilda), Sth Melbourne, (lost to Melbourne), Nth Melbourne, Hawthorn, Collinwood, Carlton, Geelong, Richmond, Footscray, Essendon, St Kilda over the rest of the H&A season.

So won 12 of the remaining 14 games that season, finishing 2nd on percentage to Melbourne, pretty bloody good memory morsie.

Fitzroy went out in straight sets in finals losing to Melbourne by 62 points and Collingwood by 5 points.

Melbourne thrashed Collingwood by 48 points in the Grand Final, that was Melbourne's 6th Grand Final appearance in a row and their 5th GF win in those 6 years.
