This interactive site allows you to have a look at "home advantage measurements"
A shame they did not have a filter that was "interstate" as Melbourne teams playing "away" in Melbourne is a little misleading.

Gamble responsibly

You can only filter by date.
In the images below i chose 2019 as the start date as that is when we became relevant.
The interstate "away teams" away record in that timeframe
Port 28 wins/in 47 games (59.57%), Lions 26/50 (52%), Giants 24/53 (45.28%), Swans 22/51 (43.14%), Dockers 18/47 (38.3%), Crows 14/47 (29.79%), Eagles 14/49 (28.5%), Suns 10/47 (21.28%)

It is still hard to win an interstate game even when you occupy a good ladder position.
Ports H&A ladder position starting 2019: 10,1,4,11,1
Lions H&A ladder position starting 2019: 2,2,5,3,4

Even when you look at averages (active teams only) including the Melbourne teams it is hard to win away.

Would it be worth trialling getting rid of prior opportunity?... if you take possession of the ball you must get rid of it via a legal disposal or it is holding the ball, would likely lead to a lot more tap ons/kicks off the ground/punches forward resulting in a lot less tackles.
PO was added to the laws of the game in 1996 as a reward for run down tackles; nothing to do with removing the obligation of the tackled player to keep the ball in motion in a 'no PO' situation.

Well they should adopt what MR Ripper said, the umps should just pay HTB the moment players either drop it or incorrectly dispose of it which is most of the time, instead they allow all sorts of illegal acts in the name of keepying the play moving by ignoring them and then where left with this crap.
That's not exactly what I said.

The ball player should always have a reasonable opportunity to attempt to correctly dispose of the football. I would hate to see a game where it's a benefit to be beaten to the ball. The problem is that the interpretation of "reasonable opportunity" has evolved into a very, very, very reasonable opportunity.

Footy legend Malcolm Blight says the time has come for the AFL to ditch the tackle.

The AFL continues to be worried about concussions with the sling tackle currently a major focus.

Blight outlined his reasons why the tackle could be creeping towards its death with a number of statistics he pulled together.
...............
There's probably a few steps to go before this happens (removing prior opportunity, banning pinning the arms, banning players being tackled into the ground etc)...

But the end game is that the tackle will be banned. In fact by 2050 I'll be surprised if there are many contact sports in the world left unless we have players being forced to sign waivers etc protecting the governing body etc.

For what it's worth, having played Gaelic footy for the best part of a decade, the absence of the tackle by no means inhibits the ability of the defensive team to take possession. There are all sorts of techniques and strategies used, such as body checking, corralling, actually wrenching the ball itself from the grasp of the opponent. We were always taught to dig the shoulder in when doing so also.

The other difference in Gaelic is the rule around bouncing the ball. Ignore the "solo" for a moment; I don't see that coming into AFL any time soon or ever. But in Gaelic you have to bounce every 4 steps. This sounds extreme but if you are running at full pace this is probably 10m so not that much different to AFL. The difference lies in the fact that the rules state that it's every 4 steps OR the amount of time it would normally take you to take 4 steps.

So if the AFL were to adopt a similar interpretation, it would mean you could corrale an opponent, force him into a corner and then attempt to disposess him as he goes to bounce.

That last passage of Merrett > Yeo > Black > Patfull > Adcock > Zorko > McGrath was a million to one to come off in hindsight... all players under pressure and racing the clock.

Has there ever been a better passage of play in Brisbane Lions history?
Never been a passage more exciting in my life time of watching footy as a Brisbane Lions fan.

I scared the crap out of my young daughter that day because of the sheer exuberance at the end of the game.
I didnt know that, until it come up about 5 years later when she filled me in.

I did love being at the MCG to witness the Jake Lever Jig and subsequent 50 meters and goal from McGone though.... but in a different way.
That was awesome from my lounge room too.

The vacant look on the face after giving away the 50 and realising he had just ****ed up any chance they had, was just priceless.

I know I won't be the only one but geez that MOG clip on the Lions twitter had me with the biggest grin and happiest of tears ... still gives me goosebumps and everything else that goes with that win!

...and we need Ash in the current team for his accuracy at goal, he's still got it!

There's a goal we kicked in the 2001 Grand Final where we had a million handballs at half back under intense pressure. Every handball had to be made otherwise we'd lose the ball. We got out, Notting ran down the wing and I think Brown ended up handballing to Power for a goal at the top of the square. Pretty memorable stuff. Mid-3rd quarter, after Essendon had dominated the first half of the quarter for only a couple of behinds.

Both brilliant passages of play tho. Miracle On Grass goal of course was not only trying to evade Geelong players but also racing the clock (not that anyone would have known that at the time, to the second).

It was so unlikely I just couldn't believe it at the time and still struggle, especially given how crap we tended to be.

The bye spread over 4 rounds this season:poo:, hate it just get it over and done with in 2 weeks please or do it all at once and have a footy free weekend.
I read a suggestion the other day which I thought was quite brilliant.

Play the bye rounds over 9 weeks (2 teams each week) from say Round 9 to Round 17. And then the two teams that had the bye play each other the following Thursday night. That way we get the double whammy of avoiding the whole "losing coming off the bye" anomaly, PLUS more footy on Thursday nights. Winning!

We will play west cost in 2 weeks and win by 6 goals after a struggle until 3 quarter time

I know this is (or should be) tongue in cheek but people need to temper their expectations on a 100+ win being a pass.

I think people should not get ahead of themselves and tempt faith. We have another game before we start the celebrations playing West Coast.
Lets concentrate on the Richmond is a danger, eight point game.
Richmond win and likely move to ninth spot. We’d want to keep them away from their natural comfort zone.
