Didn't think it possible, but that's an even more obnoxious ad than last year's effort.
To be fair it's promoted to fans who occasionally take their hats off..

Trying to make sense of the last line. Are you saying we were Lynch’s preferred destination?

They never touch on it on air, just talk about the Hawks, but given the context it smells like preferred destination.

I took that as options for trade terms, given that it was all wrapped up in the wider ruck swaps - I.e ceglar to the cats, fort to us, hawthorn gets on traded what we give Geelong and then uses it to try trade for lynch.

Lions academy YouTube channel.

Lost to GWS today.

I actually watched the Lions last 3 games on YT. They fared pretty well vs Grange, but they were outclassed by Suns, and choked vs GWS. I notice the same unit of boys gets picked weekly, with limited changes regardless of form. One boy started at the back in the 1st game and struggled. Advanced to the wing for the 2nd game and performed poorly. Was promoted to the midfield in the 3rd game and fell apart. Look forward to see him named captain next week.

Something terribly wrong with our academy.

U17: Suns 110 defeat Lions 44.
U18: Suns 103 defeat Lions 28.

U18 Girls: Suns 52 defeat Lions 12.
Its because Lions employ and staff the academy with people whos biggest professional achivement will be to coach in the Lions academy. They have made it. No ambition to go further. If they want change, they need to hire a recently retired player with AFL coaching aspirations, who looks at the academy as an opportunity to prove himself in all areas of coaching, and everything that goes with it. Someone desperate for results, and that is measured in draftees, and happy kids satisfied they had the chance to give it their best shot. Someone who has higher aspirations and will use the academy to achieve it.

Feel a little sorry for Tom Morris tbh. Having private conversations with your mates shouldn't cost you your job. He was stupid to send recordings though, just left himself wide open.

He did say racist things which does reflect poorly on him. But private conversations being made public is almost on par with sharing nude photos without the other persons approval IMO. It can ruin careers/lives.

I have friends of many different ethnic backgrounds and on the rare occasion we all say/send inappropriate things to each other (e.g. a racist or dirty joke - probably not quite as crass as what Tom said) but when said/sent in private and in confidence between approving friends I just think that should be treated on its merits.

Don't really have a solution tbh, but I think the person who published that information to the world should be punished. Just not sure it was in the public's best interests to hear those private conversations.

Not much sympathy from me. The racist comments are bad enough but to denigrate a colleague for her sexuality, so you can give your mates a raunchy "scoop", I dunno what else Fox could have done but to sack him.

I think the whole "we've all done similar" argument tends to get overcooked. Maybe that's true but it doesn't make it ok and when it is linked to your work, you should face employment consequences.

And if you trust a "group chat" as a safe place to say whatever you want, then there's a level of stupidity too. As soon as it is written down or recorded, you have to expect to own it.

What about the machinations of leaking it , without any thought about the additional victims it would produce. Luckily it seems Megan Barnard has handled it well. But its all just scummy and has got to leave a bad taste in your mouth. Whether it was someone who wanted to defend the Doggies or someone who just wanted Morris down a peg... good lord I guess it kinda worked? Well done.. I guess..?

Could have been her?

Yeah, there's more than one guilty party here. Beveridge acted poorly too, albeit not on the scale of Morris or the "leaker".

Could have been her?
One of his mates has owned up to it.

But apart from that, victim blaming is really really horrible.

You are saying - she might have released it herself to get him sacked or cause a problem. Trying to deflect the poor opinions the public have of Tom Morris because of his actions and plant in people's minds that she doesn't deserve empathy. And he's the victim.

Really pathetic.

Random one for brissy residents. I’m heading up for the Saints and lions game. We want to stay a little out of the city and venture in for the game…. Where is better to stay, Redcliffe or Sandgate? I have never spent that much time in brissy!

I really like both areas but I dunno that either is a normal tourism destination! They are waterfront but not typical beach suburbs like you'd find in Sydney.

Sandgate is a bit more of a village whereas Redcliffe is larger. Both will take you a fair while to get to and from the game. The train to the Redcliffe Peninsula doesn't go all the way to Redcliffe either.

I'll be honest, as much as I like both areas, I dunno that I'd choose to stay there for a holiday. If you don't want to be right in the CBD, you could also look at riverside areas like New Farm, Tenerife, Kangaroo, South Bank, Bulimba etc. Still inner city but not quite as built up as the city itself.

I agree that fox sports had no choice when all that became public to sack him. My point is more that everyone has their dirty laundry and the way people act and talk towards their close friends is always going to be different to how they act and talk outwardly towards the public. That's where context comes in. A private conversation between friends is rarely ever intended for the whole world to hear. That's where I do have a bit of sympathy for him.

Don't care who you are, I'm willing to bet the worst things you've said or have been told by friends in your life you wouldn't want the world to hear, which potentially has happened to Tom here.

I agree, that's the risk when messaging friends. But that same logic applies to sending nude pictures to people which (and rightly so) is illegal to share to other people without consent of the person who sent it. That's why I think the person who shared those audio and messages should be punished.

Anyway, I think I've made my point and I think your points are valid too. Just another grey area of life I suppose.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Without context it's hard to judge but in the cold light of day the bare comments are indefensible.

Which is why he's been sacked. The broader question of why someone would make that public and why he would share his gob saying that sort of thing I guess we'll never know.

But in life we've all said and done things that we regret, oftentimes that we never really meant to come out the way that they did. Obviously he's been sacked and that's that. I hope he's learnt from that. And I'm not jumping on the total condemnation bandwagon without knowing the full story. As bad as it does look on all that we know. He's paid the price for his words.

In other industries Tom may have got a warning, but the fact is he is a high profile job with a lot of public scrutiny. The stakes are higher.

I don't want my daughter's up have to work with someone who talks behind their backs like either of those two clips so I agree with the sacking.

But I also am horrified that he so stupidly threw away his career. There simply is no excuse - the standards have been clear, especially since the AFLW was established.

It's not like there will be other opportunities in the field cause there's a very small number of jobs. He is going to have to completely start again, and the thought of that is horrifying. Stupid boy shat all over a golden ticket.

Yeah.

But in life we all squander opportunities and hit rock bottom. Sometimes when you look like you're on the top you're on the bottom in other ways.

It could be the making of him. And make him a better person. And be an example to others.

Let's hope so.

The Age Real Footy podcast discussed his sacking and reckon the industry will offer him some form of redemption in 12 months or so.
