Happy with a last touch rule coming in.
Reducing four umpires to three. We will still have issues but maybe having less decision makers will work better.
......................................................

I would add 5 on the bench. All the coaches agreed to this when the AFL asked them in 2023.
But the AFL did not get the answer they were after so ignored the consensus.

Also, no more bounce the ball at CBA's.
Should have gone years ago when the umpires put their case to the AFL.
Opens the role up for better decision-making umpires that can't bounce the ball to save themselves.
Even the ones that make it to AFL/VFL level struggle big time to get this right.
Also, more people especially woman will decide to give it a go from juniors to senior level.

In short:

The Hobart football stadium proposal could turn on the outcome of the election for the northwest Tasmanian upper house seat of Montgomery on Saturday, May 24.

The Liberal government needs more upper house votes to pass special stadium legislation, but three of the five candidates are vocally opposed to the project.

What's next?

A Tasmanian election analyst says if "anyone other than the Liberals" is elected on the day, it could spell trouble for the government's plans.

The Greens "we don't need a billion dollar stadium, we need affordable housing".....

For who????? No one wants to live in Tasmania.

You wanna know why? Because you don't have your own AFL team, that's why!!!!!!!!!!

Every town needs a pub, church, post office & boutique football stadium with a roof, everything after that is secondary....

Edit: On a serious point though, you'd wanna get a wriggle on if you're gonna play in 2028. I'd hate to be involved in the lobbying for this, it would just be a total cluster f, and so frustrating.

I don’t see the stadium getting built in 2.5 years. That’s an extremely short timeline even without the political road blocks.

Really good article from Caroline Wilson in today’s Age about the current media rights deal, and lack of FTA Saturday football.

(https://12ft.io/ for the many who can’t get past the paywall).

The article specifically mentions Youi questioning why TV numbers are down - which we can likely translate into our sponsors likely not being willing to pay as much for our sponsorship rights.
Caro says that the total rights are worth an additional $70m/year, with Ch7 paying additional $20m/year. So in a simplified calculation Fox is paying $50m/year extra. To cover this, then need ~300K extra kayo subscriptions per year. Essentially the AFL using PayTV to place an extra tax on football supporters.
Caro mostly highlights the impact this is having in non-Vic football markets.

Absolutely a case of head office feathering their own nests, with absolute disregard for the broader impact to the game, supporters, and club revenues… and potentially Gil feathering his own nests before his departure.

It’s a 7-year deal. How many casual supporters will be lost to the game because of this is unknown… but the disregard for fans and clubs in all this makes me sick. I’m sure they’ve not set aside any of those funds to supplement lost club revenues.

Without even looking at the video i would not be able to do it even though i was a spritely 47 at the time.

I sat next to Mal Michael in my first time attending the MCG at the 2023 GF.

He sat down just before the game started.
I looked over and thought, do i know this guy.
I actually said to him " i know your face but can't put a name to it".
He said Mal Michael and i was so embarrassed.
He took it in his stride, and we had a chat at times during the game.
I just said look what you have to look forward to when you get older, and he had a laugh.

Seems the tease from Swann for a Fitzroy guernsey after QClash will occur next year. “And for all of the diehard Fitzroy fans, stay tuned…” QClash28 sells out
Segment on the Roar Deal this week (around 1:03:12):
Hey Dom, I know you have a lot on your plate but is there any chance you could snoop around for confirmation of that Fitzroy guernsey that was hinted at by Greg Swann while you were at the Lionhearts function?
This is a really interesting comment. So a couple of people mentioned this, after the Lions paid tribute to the bears, what they were planning to do for Fitzroy? Stay tuned we'll have news shortly.
I asked Swann about it and it's not a this year thing... But, they have approved a retro Fitzroy guernsey for a game next year. They're going to do the Hall of Fame in Melbourne next year. They're going to wear it in the game before that event.
...
Hold out for news on that later in the year. We'll probably get an image at some point later in the year what it might look like.

Alternating retro jumpers each year is such a no brainer. Keeps everyone happy and makes them just rare enough that they stay super popular and a great fundraising item of merch

Hmm, dire times for the Wizz. Loved him as a kid, wish him all the best. Is it CTE or something else for years on end here tho? Probably a little from column A & B.

It's hard to know because people react differently to head knocks and concussions. But from what I have seen with former fighters, there is plenty who in addition to their head knocks they also spent plenty of time drinking and doing drugs, those guys are normally in the worse shape than the guys who have just taken head knocks.
He is in his 60s now and has ADHD, there seems to be some evidence it can either be confused with cognitive decline or that it can potentially contribute to cognitive decline.

Kayo got my $50 before i cancelled.
Had no option if i wanted to watch the Saturday game live.

They mentioned a 25% increase but i wonder what % of that increase cancelled like i did.
Keyo keeps sending a text once i cancelled "Kayo premium only. Min. cost $1 for 1 month"
No thanks

I have ADHD and this doesn't look like ADHD to me (while acknowledging that ADHD has a broad spectrum of symptoms). It looks strikingly similar to a close relative of mine who sadly passed away earlier this year from issues associated with early-onset dementia, especially the repeating of the same stories and difficulty in retrieving names.

Also have ADHD, from my understanding, our little quirks can get worse as we age due to a variety of reasons, they are saying there is a increased risk of dementia including early onset with ADHD. My point wasn't so much that it could just be his ADHD but that with his ADHD comes increased risk of dementia, with the head knocks comes the increased risk of CTE dementia. Then if he was getting multiple concussions per seasons, which isn't really that crazy of an idea, in my experience from fighters that I have known, those that mixed good amounts of drugs and alcohol during the time they were getting concussed are generally worse off mentally.
I was listening to a Lester Ellis interview the other day, he spoke briefly about his alcohol abuse troubles. To listen to him now, and comparing him with Barry Michael (I know there are plenty of other factors) is night and day as far as how they are holding up despite Lester being a decade younger. I don't know either personally but it seems that Lester lived and partied harder outside the ring that Barry did.

Just heard David King say that Hugh McCluggage is now a top 5 player in the competition and the Lions best player.

I believe he called him Hugh McDamage in last nights post game show.
Its not a new nickname for him (or a very good one). Pretty sure King and some of the other commentators have been using it all this year
