You're calling for a second year coach to be sacked because he hasn't got a team playing finals football in 30 matches.

Tonight was as bad as round 1. I maintain a lot will need to change for him to be here in 2024. We look so far off the pace.

How many games do we need to win for him to be there next year? 6? If we don’t win another game I don’t believe Rutten will be coaching next year. If we lose the next 3 pressure will have to be ramping up.

The idea that he could have done anything tonight beyond ‘go back in time 3 years, get the running program right and make sure Dodoro gets sacked in favour of Kinnear Beatson’ is absolutely absurd.

He’s got no levers he can pull with this list in this state.
 
Least tackles of any team all year - and on the SCG.

No team who wants to be considered 'blue collar' puts out this sort of performance. The effort is a genuine worry and the coach has to wear some of that.

Even if you accept that is true - and that’s a big if - the team is not putting in 100%. About last in the competition for tackles, horrid defensive efforts. I mean the 2016 team at least seemed to try. I think that’s the most damning aspect.

Maybe the process we undertake (or lack of) in order to find a coach is fundamentally flawed? Hence why we keep getting the same results. We keep hiring frauds because we don't do proper DD.

For starters how about playing man on man and not let them have a squillion shots on goal ?
This zoning off does not work for us we need to pressure the ball carrier or we will be slaughtered every week. Look at the difference from last week ?

May as well say ‘just go out there and belt someone’.
 
Is it possible to get Sheedy , Lyon or some other experienced guy to sit in the box with Rutten for a game or two? Just as an observent . He doesn't make any calls or tells Rutten what to do but just after a game pulls him aside and says this is what's good, this is what isn't.

Get Sheedy to just be the coach, he's the best we've had.

I mean Sheedy could sit in the box as a board member, but idk what he would be able to tell them about running a coaches box that isn't at least a decade out of date. From today's coverage he's already got a corporate box to watch from anyway.

You can do both.

Zone is pointless if opposition players are constantly 30m in the clear.

Many finals are 1 on 1 throughout the game.

The Zone works if you have gut runners that can apply pressure and close in from 10 metres. We are not close.

Sacked may be going to hard but the journey we are on is the same each week we lose.

Rd 2. - 22
Rd 3. - 29
Rd 4. + 4
Rd 5. - 48
Rd 6. - 11
Rd 7. - 32
Rd 8. + 27
Rd 9. - 58

The common theme is and the confirmation from in depth experts like David King is, we do ok with the ball but when we aren't going ok, we lose convincingly. Average losing margin is 38 points.

So sack Rutten and do what?

Bring in another coach who the senior players don't listen to, then sack him and so on and so forth. Why is it the young players put in effort yet the senior players don't? Is that Ruttens fault?

So many issues revolve around our ingrained shitty show up and get paid culture, changing coaches every 3 years aint fixing that.

We are currently not a good football team, just because you got hopes up after us falling into the 8 last year doesn't change the fact.
 
Shades of Teague at Carlton. Got everyone excited by a strong start to his coaching career. Now the defence is being torn apart and Truck has the Teague-like stupid look watching on expressionless as his side gets spanked.

Your argument is flawed a coaches primary job is to get the players playing with intensity
applying pressure does not take talent- it takes intent
head coach coaches creates highlights and rewards intent
by your rationale rutten is safe for a three more years or two or one?
i worry about consistent effort and no real forward structure
