For what its worth, I'd love to see the game.

Port Adelaide (with AFL players from the club) vs East Fremantle (with AFL players from the club).....that would be a good one.

You win 1 position, how the hell do you suppose that your team is better????

Not only that but Port have produced some of the best young players going around at the moment aswell in C.Enright, A.Didak,A.Fiora and G.John(ock.

And I am called Bias.
From this point on and this season Black is and will be a better player than McLoed.
Same goes for Cousins over Buckely.
Same goes for Haselby and Wanganeen
Kerr vs Pickett well thats debateable as Pickett is from WA

From this point on??? Have you ever seen Mcleod play Sabre. Sure he had a bad season this year, but still polled 16 votes. Playing in first gear in rd 22 against you guys got 37 possessions and 3 goals if my memory serves me correctly. Black had a good year, but will never, ever be as damaging as Mcleod.

Brownlow medals mean nothing these days, if you remember, Shane Woewoedin won one 2 years ago.

Your Cousins is better than Buckley comment is also bull$hit. Cousins propably gets the ball a little more than Buckley...but Buckley's ball use is so much better. Buckley can tear teams apart off his own boot, Cousins at the moment doesnt have as much influence on a game as Buckley.

Then again, if Buckley and Macca were Western Australians, we wouldnt be having this stupid conversation.

In the past two years Black and Cousins have emerged as two of the premier midfielders of the league, along with the likes of Buckley, McLeod, Voss and Ratten.

I reckon a few of you blokes need to get your head out of your arses, and start having a look at some non SA players.

Be happy to compare one of those Freo teams with a Port Adelaide/Port Magpies team, but if you want to combine both, then we'd have to add Woodville-West Torrens & Central Districts to the Port side.

Of course, this is the Freo board, so I'll only post it if you guys have any actual interest in it.
The point is you are looking outside the actual Port Adelaide area, Salisbury is hardly a stones throw away. East Freo and South Freo are still within the City of Fremantle.

The sides are only combined because of their location.. having said that, I still would give the Sharks of '02 a huge chance over the Port Magpies.

The Port Adelaide-Enfield council district is pretty damn large too, but definitely looking outside of the actual Port Adelaide suburb, yes.

I don't reckon that all of the players in the `Freo' side come from within the City of Fremantle either. Not sure quite what your point is with your reply.

Wrong. Buckley gets more of the ball than Cousins.

Buckley, in his worst year since about 1994 still nearly came off with an AA, was up there in the Brownlow and will probably still be top 2 or 3 in the BnF.

Hmmm, first you use the Brownlow medal count to show us how good McLeod's season was and then you say that the Brownlow means 'nothing these days'........

Black will win his second consecutive best and fairest in a grand final team this year and earnt his second consectuive All-Australian selection by being selected as the centreman of the side. Hence my reasoning behind why I disagreed with Zombie when he said 'McLeod over Black easily.'

Wrong. Buckley gets more of the ball than Cousins.

In 2001, Buckley gathered 526 possessions (368 kicks and 158 handballs) in 20 games for an average of 26.30 possessions per game.
Cousins gathered 601 possessions (335 kicks and 266 handballs) in 22 games for an average of 27.32 possessions per game.

In 2002, Buckley gathered 433 possessions (312 kicks and 121 handballs) in 19 games for a average of 22.79 possessions per game.
Cousins gathered 532 possessions (314 kicks and 218 handbals) in 22 games for an average of 24.18 possessions per game.

.....You are wrong, my friend... Cousins has had more possessions than Buckley for two consecutive seasons.

In contrast, Cousins (for the second consecutive year) earnt an AA selection, came equal third in the Brownlow count and will win his second consecutive B&F for WC.

Its very different though, Buckley plays in a good team, Cousins plays in a hack team. When Buckley used to play in a team full of hacks he would average over 30 possessions a game (4 seasons straight I think). Buckley's possessions are far more damaging than Cousins who is simply WC's "go to guy", much like P.Bell of Freo.

Have you actually watched an Eagles game this year?

This "hack" team flogged Collingwood at Subi, and only finished 2 wins behind them.

What?

Ok, point taken. Zombie obviously has issues with the entire state of WA. We'll leave him be shall we?

*BUMP*

Current Combined East Freo & South Freo Team:

Full Back: Jonathan Hay (Sharks) Darren Gaspar (Bulldogs) Roger Hayden (Bulldogs)

Half Back: James Clement (Bulldogs) Graham Polak (Sharks) Glen Jakovich (Bulldogs)

Centre: Daniel Kerr (Sharks) Simon Black (Sharks) Matthew Carr (Sharks)

Half Forward: Peter Bell (Bulldogs) Travis Gaspar (Bulldogs) Daniel Chick (Sharks)

Full Forward: Phillip Matera (Bulldogs) Luke McPharlin (Sharks) Ashley Sampi (Bulldogs)

Ruck: Aaron Sandilands (Sharks) Ben Cousins (Sharks) Paul Hasleby (Sharks)

Interchange: Shane Woewodin (Sharks) Josh Carr (Sharks) Tarkyn Lockyer (Sharks) Ashley McGrath (Bulldogs)

And to think that only 7 of these 22 Freo boys are playing for the Fremantle Football Club...

It's a disgrace that the poorer clubs are able to poach locally grown talent from the powerful breeding grounds such as Freo and Port.

How about giving each team a pre-draft zoning selection to give them the opportunity to keep some of their locally grown talent? Seems like a fairly good idea to me.

I'd go as far as saying that when fit, that side would beat any other team in the league. The only real weakness seems to be CHF.

The midfield would be one of the best I've seen with Kerr and Black winning the ball in and under feeding it to ball magnets Bell and Cousins, the class of Hasleby, the toughness of Chick and Matty and Josh Carr as the taggers.

The former Port Adelaide team wouldn't come close to this lineup.

To you and me, yes, its a good idea. But to the Victorian clubs, it sucks. And regretfully, they are a very powerful voting bloc, so I can't see it happening.

Or even give all clubs a zone and they can if they wish use a 3rd or 4th round draft pick similar to father/son.
