Why can we not develop a tall forward?

Clearly the Collingwood recruiting, coaching and development staff are well resourced. We are showing time and time again an ability to both pick and develop quality mids / defenders. Yet looking at our tall forwards, who has really progressed over the last 2-3 years? Cloke was clearly better 3 years ago. JA has plateau'd. Josh is going backwards. Dawes and Reid have evidently not come up adequately enough to get a game in the 1s.

This is not a criticism but an observation that we are ahead of the game with our recruiting and development work and yet just can't seem to find find the same progression in our tall forwards that we have seen in our other players.

This guy says hello :)

Why the hell do Cloke, Jack and Dawes wear a bloody glove? It looks ridiculous and obviously has not helped any of them at this stage. If it's a confidence thing that worries me even more. I thought that look died in the nineties.

Nah he died last year!!!!!!!!!!

What? too soon?

Jack Anthony had an interrupted pre season , and is currently lacking fitness.

Cloke's starting to get back on track , with kicking the issue. Already looking better than last year.

Dawes has stepped up and hasn't been given an opportunity yet.

The main problem is Malthouse trying to play a journey man fill in/'utility' , and a tall follower type as planks in our forward set up. It just will not work against good defensive sides , for the future and we won't win a flag like that.

Dunno but it's certainly frustrating. If we had a reliable key forward we'd be set to dominate the competition. We have to make do with what we've got, but you've got to wonder how much better we'd be if we had Fev sitting in the square for Davis and Medhurst to crumb off.

I dunno but those pictures show he took at least two overhead marks and went for at least one other.

Suddenly I'm all tingly and my pants are shrinking.
He took that third one too; it was bad photography rather than bad football. :)

Dawes - in for ANZAC Day. We love the A-Day debut, kicks 9.0 and dislocates Michael Hurley's crotch.

Dawes is in his 4th year at the club and still isn't considered best 22, and isn't getting games in the seniors. How this reflects well on the clubs ability to develop tall forwards is beyond me.

Fantastic set of images, TRS.

If Dawes doesn't get a game this week, he needs to get Danny Stanley on the blower for moral support.

How many young KP forwards are there dominating AFL footy today??

Tippet the next star has been woeful

Kennedy at West Coast looked pretty good
J.Riewoldt kicking a few

but apart from that, no surprises that it is the senior forwards who are kicking all the goals. Pods a 28 yr old bloke looks much more suited than any 20 yr old kid.

Dawes, Anthony and Cloke are going along fine....compare them to kids of similar age.....dont compare them to 28yr old veterans like Brown!

I've had that same depressing thought.

Well said.

No need to push them

Seems to go alright for Maxwell. Maybe it's a backmen thing? Cloke cetainly kicks like one. :p

Could you imagine how much fun the press would have had if Fev was at Collingwood. The first dragon of football, wallsy, timmy lane, fat robbo and the idiot who talks to KB in the mornings. I had to get a job to stop wanting to smash my radio on monday mornings.

Eddie would have been in more trouble than Christine Nixon. It would have been bad that we had pubs because Fev had a drinking problem, Also Girls watch Collingwood play so the Bingle issue would have been in-flammed the Womans Liberation issue, The photographers union would have been quoted, we toss a coin before the game that would have up set Gamblers annon and contibuted to his problem but Robbo would have suggested it is all due to too many roatations and the pressure that Mick feels from Bucks. Eddie would have branded as a Communist due to his "Brisbane Line" Churchill idea.

No Fev could not have worked at Pie land. The only person who is yet to write an article about how wrong we are is Roland Rochacehellie but we have supported Danial Kowolski I think

Cloke has played 2 decent games out of 4. Hopefully he can keep getting better.

I want Matthew Lloyd to get dowen there and help him correct his kicking technique. He had some interesting observations of it Saturday night.

Those images of Dawes are so encouraging it's not funny, eyes on the ball and full extension and looks really strong on the back of the form of Fraser and Brown it may well be time one of them make way for Dawes.

TRS, great set of images.

Finally, some really strong, contested marks at full extension well above his head.

He is almost a certainty to get a call-up this week.

As for the OP who said Jack has "plataeud", that is nonsense. Is one of the best young key forwards going around and that is not based on "potential" rather on exposed senior form. It is well-known he has had a limited pre-season and off-season shoulder surgery. He will be fine and back in the seniors in the next fortnight IMO.

Do they make moonboots with stops in them?
